"Flying Wolf" actor Alex Corde died at the age of 88

Alex Cord, best known for playing the "archangel" in the '80s military drama "The Flying Wolf," died Monday at the age of 88.

According to Linda McAlister, a publicist and longtime friend of Calder's, he died Monday at his home in Valleyview, Texas, without mentioning other details such as the specific cause of death.

Alex Coder was born on May 3, 1933 in Floral Park, New York, as Alexander Viespi Jr. He began his acting career in the early '60s, making his television debut in 1961 in an episode of Laramie. He also played roles in the films Chapman Report and Paradise of the Lost. He then began to play leading roles in a number of films and TV series in the 60s and 70s.

Calder is frequently featured in action and Westerns, and his other credits include Route 66, Police Story, Invincible King Kong, Ship of Love, Neverland, The Writer and the Murder, and Texas Rangers. He is also one of the few actors who has starred in both the original "Tiger's Trick" and "New Tiger's Trick". Over the past few decades, he has starred in many films, including Lone Killer Aphrodisiac, Leaking Hearts, Jungle Warrior, and Masquerade.

Perhaps Codder's most famous character is Michael Cord smith Briggs III, the archangel, in the classic military drama The Wolves. Flying Wolf aired for four seasons in the mid-'80s, with the main cast including Ran-Michael Vincent, Ernest Borgning, and Jane Bruce Scott.

The TV series mainly tells the story of a high-tech military helicopter code-named "Flying Wolf" and its crew on a dangerous mission. Calder's characters are always paired with the iconic white suit, cane and eye mask.
