Geography of China: Yunnan Province (Pu'er)
Pu'er City, formerly known as "Simao",
Located in the southwest of Yunnan Province,
It is connected with Honghe Prefecture, Yuxi City, Lincang City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Dali Prefecture and Chuxiong Prefecture.
It borders Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, and has a border length of 486 kilometers.
The total area is 45,000 square kilometers, and the permanent population is more than 2.4 million.
Inhabited by 14 ethnic groups, including Han, Hani, Yi, Lahu, Wa and Dai,
Ethnic minorities make up 61 per cent of the total population.
Local traditional festivals are:
Wa Wooden Drum Festival (December of the Gregorian calendar), Lahu Gourd Festival (15th day of the 10th month of the lunar calendar),
Yi Torch Festival (24-26 of the 6th lunar month) and Dai Songkran Festival (13-15 April in the Gregorian calendar).

The pu'er municipal people's government is located in the administrative center of the northern part of Simao District.
The mountains in Pu'er City are undulating, and the mountainous area of the whole district accounts for 98.3% of the total area.
