The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the four traditional festivals alongside the Spring Festival, Qingming Dynasty and Mid-Autumn Festival. At first, it was only the festival of warding off evil spirits, and it was not until the Han Dynasty that confucianism was exalted, and only after the han dynasty was added to commemorate the quality of loyalty and filial piety and martyrdom of Qu Yuan and others. On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, in addition to expressing the feelings of "Si Xian" by eating rice dumplings and racing dragon boats, people also pass on the ancient customs of "warding off evil spirits" by drinking xionghuang wine, wearing five-colored threads (long life wisps), hanging sachets, placing wormwood, and posting spirit runes.

Sachet
So why did the ancients want to get rid of poison and ward off evil on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival? Where does the evil poison come from? This must start from the original connotation of the "Dragon Boat Festival".
The end, the two ends of things, the beginning and end of time, contain the beginning and the end of the two meanings.
Noon, the seventh branch of the twelve branches (子, ugly, 寅, 卯, 辰, 巳, 巳, 巳, 未, 申, 酉, 戌, 海), originally refers to the time when the grass and trees are most leafy, and contains the meaning of grandeur.
The Dragon Boat Festival, the "end" of the "noon", the "end" of the extremely grand. There are two meanings: one is to say that the "terminal (top)" of the extremely magnificent is mainly to say that the yang qi is extremely strong; the other is to say that the "beginning" of the extreme grandeur is mainly to say that the yin qi is about to flourish at the beginning. Two layers of meaning are one and two ends, such as the double side of a coin.
Frost
In a word, the sun is the best. In the winter of October, the frost has begun, the grass and trees have withered and yellowed, the dragons and snakes are dormant, all things are depressed, the six yangs are stripped away, and the time is all based on the six yins, and the yin reaches its peak. The full moon will be lost, the water will overflow, to the winter solstice in November, a yang is revived, through the december two yang birth, the first month of the three yang birth, the second yang birth, the fourth yang birth in February, the fifth yang birth in March, to the end of April and the beginning of May, the six yangs are fully restored, the six yin are all lost, the hundred flowers are full of poles, the hundred grasses are dense, the hundred trees are great, and the yang reaches the "top" of the extreme, which can be described as the "noon" of the top of the yang, so it is called "Dragon Boat Festival". "Noon" shengye, in the lunar month of May, so also called May as the "noon moon"; in the japanese language, in the 1 Jia Zi sixty days of the noon (a total of five noon days, Geng Noon, Nong Noon, Jia Noon, Jia Noon, C Noon, Peng Noon); in the words of the times, on the noon of the day when the day is empty (11:00 to 13:00). Noon, noon, noon, are the most magnificent time. The other five, the five of the nine and five, are the highest of the Yang. The noon of the fifth day of May is the time of year when the sun is at its peak, so it is used as a festival, also known as the five festivals. Qu Yuan's martyrdom, Jiezi Tui, Wu Zixu's martyrdom, and Cao E's martyrdom are all from yang to gang, and they are all on this day, so future generations will also commemorate the above sages on this day.
On May 5, Cao E's father rode a boat on the Shun River to greet the soul of Wu Zixu, and fell into the river and died. Cao E was grief-stricken, and then jumped into the river to martyr her father
The beginning of the two words of yin. By noon on the 5th of May, the yang qi reached its peak. The anode will decline, after noon on the fifth day of May, a yin gradually begins, a hundred flowers flourish and wither, snakes, scorpions, toads and spiders have come out one after another, the wind and the wind and the chang gradually turn to the humid heat is intolerable, the rain is continuous, the mold is continuous, the yin day is advancing, the yang is receding, from the first yin of May, through the second yin of June, the third yin of July, the fourth yin of August, the fifth yin of September, the winter of October, the full birth of the six yin, the most abundant yin, can be described as the "noon" of the yin. May 5th is actually the beginning of the "Yin Noon", so it is called the "Dragon Boat Festival". Because of this, the ancients regarded May as the "fierce month" and May 5 as the "evil day", and it was not appropriate to do anything on that day. On that day, his mother was born, and his father Tian Bao scolded his concubine "not to lift up (do not give birth)", because "those who are born in May, who grow up with the household, will be unfavorable to their parents" ("History of Meng Tianjun Lie"), because he was born on the day of the yin restoration, and the next day will be "yin and strong" and will be able to conquer his parents.
Meng Yijun
Three words of yin and yang are damaged by the battle of yang. If a yin is born, it will be advanced. Yin jin, yang is not standing idly by, but all-out resistance, trying to curb yin in the bud, "dragon battle (yin) in the wild, its blood is yellow" also. At that time, the yin qi came from the south, blocked by the yang, could not rush in, stayed in the south, the plum rain was continuous, and it was easy to cause waterlogging; and the yang qi retreated to the north, which was incompatible with the yin, dry and hot, less rain, and easy to cause drought. Yin and yang are not harmonious, each is poisonous and evil, and plagues arise from time to time. But the yin will eventually advance, and the yang will not be able to overcome it, and the yang will eventually suffer from the yin. The damage to the Yang actually began from this point on, and its damage gradually increased from then on. Therefore, the Dragon Boat Festival, there is also the righteousness of the beginning of the Yang victimization.
On the fifth day of May, the yin and yang fight, the yang and the yin are widowed, and the yang forces block one yin and cannot defeat the yin in the end, but it can be known that one yin is strong and the heavy yang is weak, and the yang will also have eight hundred wounds to kill the enemy and damage themselves three thousand. When Zhongyang was weak and severely injured, if he did not use other methods to drive away poison and evil spirits in advance, he would be even more damaged. If the fa is expelled, or the yin and evil can be curbed before they are born, and the damage prevention is prevented from being developed, the "Ritual Book of the Moon Order" is the cloud: "It is the moon (May), the day is long, the yin and yang are fighting, and the death and life are divided." A gentleman fasts, he will cover himself, not be impatient, stop his voice, do not enter, taste thinly, do not cause peace, abstain from lust, and calm his heart. A hundred officials do not do criminal deeds, in order to determine the yin of what is done. Therefore, on the fifth day of May, the ancients either made wormwood into a straw man (Zhang Tianshi's type), a grass tiger hanging at the head of the door, or wore a peach charm, a Heavenly Master Charm, and a five poisonous spirit charm with them, or a "King" written on the forehead of a child dipped in male yellow wine, or "those who tie their arms with colorful silk, ward off soldiers and ghosts, and make people not sick and plague" (Taiping Preview), or "carved the sword as a small human or gourd shape, and brought it to ward off evil spirits" (Shi Guangji), all in order to dispel poison and ward off evil. These exorcism rituals are just a reminder to take precautions, which is also the original face of the Dragon Boat Festival. (End)
