Patriotic soldier Yu Yuan: Blood and loyal soul The mighty spirit will last forever

Chengdu, 2 Jun (Xinhua) -- In the solemn and solemn martyrs' cemetery in Suining City, Sichuan Province, in a thick and green landscape, sits the martyrs' memorial hall, the tombs of the martyrs, and the monuments of 1,721 martyrs, including the tombstone of yu Yuan, a patriotic soldier. Every year on festivals such as Qingming and 11th, a large number of citizens come to pay homage to and receive patriotic education.

Yu Yuan, born in 1893 in Yujiaba Village, Shehong County, Suining, Sichuan, grew up in a poor family. Because of his brash temperament and upright personality, Yu Yuan fought back in anger after being bullied by the gentry and was forced to flee and join the army. This incident completely changed his life.

Yu Yuanxiao is brave and good at war, and his strategy is outstanding. When he was in the Yang Sen Department of the Sichuan Army, he was escorted to the first phase of the Luzhou Lecture Hall to study, and after graduation, he returned to the army and was successively promoted to the positions of regiment commander, brigade commander, and commander of the gendarmerie, and was known as a "general". At the beginning of the Northern Expedition, Yu Yuan supported the cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communists, and under the influence of Yang Mingong, Wu Yuzhang and others, began to accept Marxist-Leninist ideas. In August 1926, Zhu De went to yang sen to work, during which time the two had close contacts, and Yu Yuan subsequently joined the Communist Party of China and grew into a real revolutionary.

In 1926, the "9th Five-Year Massacre" occurred in Wanxian County, which shocked China and foreign countries. In the face of fierce artillery fire from the British ships, Yu Yuan decisively commanded the soldiers to fight back. During the battle, he disregarded his personal safety, organized a death squad to rush to the British ship "Jiahe", and did not retreat despite the wounds and bleeding from his head and calves, and finally killed the British captain Darley and many soldiers. Zhang Lan praised him as "the first Chinese officer who dared to resist imperialism since the Republic of China."

After the April 12 counter-revolutionary coup, Yang Sen followed Chiang Kai-shek's rebellion against the revolution and relieved Yu Yuan of his military post. In 1929, through the introduction of Zhang Lan, Yu Yuan defected to Liu Xiangbu of the Sichuan Army and successively served as a brigade commander, a division commander, a police chief in the provincial capital, and a guerrilla commander. During this period, he did a lot of work for the Communist Party, secretly participating in the "Jiangjin Armed Uprising" in 1930, and actively trying to rescue and cover underground party members and progressives. In 1935, while Yu Yuanfeng was transferred to the front, he risked his life and successfully covered the crossing of the Red Army under the pretext of adjusting his deployment and shifting his position.

In 1942, through Zhang Lan's introduction, Yu Yuan joined the Chinese Democratic Political League. On the one hand, he used his influence in the political circles of the Chuankang Army to carry out his work, and on the other hand, he developed the Democratic League organization in his hometown of Shehong.

On the night of June 1, 1947, Yu Yuan was unfortunately arrested and imprisoned in the General Yamen Prison, a concentration camp for political prisoners in Chengdu. In the face of the severe torture and coercion and inducement of Kuomintang agents, Yu Yuan was always unyielding and unyielding, and his righteousness was awe-inspiring. At the height of his anger, the tough guy soldier grabbed the tea bowl on the table and threw it at the agent, shouting, "What qualifications do you have to interrogate me?" On the night of December 7, 1949, Yu Yuan and more than 30 revolutionary comrades in the same prison bravely volunteered at the Twelve Bridges in Chengdu at the age of 56.

After the liberation of Chengdu, the Provisional Military and Political Committee of Northwest Sichuan held a solemn and solemn public sacrifice ceremony on January 19, 1950 for yu yuan and other martyrs of the Twelve Bridges. On March 5, 1951, with the approval of the Chuanxi Administrative Office, the title of Yuyuan Revolutionary Martyr was awarded, and on the same day, Shehong County also held a "Memorial Meeting for Yuyuan Martyrs" attended by more than 5,000 people in Jinhua Town.
