The examination of the imperial examination was fair and just at the beginning, and the examination was biased, especially the competition for ranks, the variety of variables was extremely large, and there were many accidents, so similar to the examples above, it is very common to ask God for advice.

Zhu Pen Temple examination questions
Xu Jie, who defeated Yan Song's father and son, was shown in the eighth year of Zhengde (1513), but zhengde fell behind in the fourteenth year. Fortunately, after he fell off the list, he met nie bao, a good teacher, and learned the lifelong benefit of Wang Shouren's heart study of 'To Conscience'.
In the first year of Jiajing (1522), Xu Jie, who was full of confidence, handed in the papers in advance, and it seemed that everything went well, but the examination papers were thrown into the list by the judges. Fortunately, the chief examiner picked up his paper, carefully read the paper and commented "When it is xieyuan", that is the first place in the township examination!
The gap between Xie Yuan and the falling list is too big, the chief examiner, the sub-examiner can not argue, and finally compromise: do not nod the name, but can be on the list, finally fell behind.
Jiajing's second year (1523) will be tested. Just when all the file readers thought that Xu Jie was the champion, Shang Shu Lin Jun came over, read the volume and said, "Be the first", which is a bad thing! Because Lin Shangshu and the file readers have contradictions, whoever praises them is good, but his praise is not good. As soon as he praised this volume, although it was a pasty name, the cabinet minister Fei Hong believed that this candidate must have something to do with Lin Jun, so Xu Jie became a tanhua. The results are really good, not out of the top three.
Similar cases are not uncommon.
In the thirty years of Kangxi, the temple tried to make Wu Fu a champion, but Kangxi liked the calligraphy of the second Dai Youqi, and Dai Youqi became a champion.
There is also a greater contrast. Chongzhen Jia Shu Branch Yuan Liu Lishun, the thirty-fourth year of the Wanli Dynasty. In the following twenty-seven years, he failed to pass the examination for nine consecutive times. Until the seventh year of Chongzhen (1634), the temple examination policy was still listed as inferior by the chief examiner, and the 273rd place.
Fortunately, Chongzhen personally reviewed all the examination papers of the palace, admired Liu Lishun's commentary and the spirit of worrying about the country and the people, so he hand-picked Liu Lishun as a champion and entrusted the Hanlin Academy to be responsible for the "Notes on Living", the "Notes on The Playing Chapter", and the compilation of the "Ming Huijiao" and so on. At that time, Liu Lishun was 52 years old. (See Ji Liuqi's "Ming Ji Beiluo")
Liu Lishun took the imperial examination ten times in a row, and after more than thirty years, he also set a record for the imperial examination. There are many similar cases, so most of the so-called "Yuanyuan Folding Gui" is not true.
