During 1946, the Kuomintang launched an all-out civil war, conducting the "Great Three Marches" in various parts of Guangdong with the goal of collecting grain, taxation, and conscription to supplement the Kuomintang's serious losses on the northeast battlefield. Chen Jinghui, secretary of the Kuomintang sub-district in Guanlan Town and head of the Guanlan Joint Defense Brigade, also participated.
In 1948, the Bao'an Luxi Intelligence Station sent four intelligence officers to try to break into the interior of Chen Jinghui's joint defense brigade, using the soldiers as a cover to carry out counter-insurgency work, waiting for the opportunity to cooperate with the outside and drag guns to revolt. In October of the same year, the counter-insurgency work was basically completed, but because the information received accidentally fell into the hands of the enemy and the plan of the uprising was leaked, the four comrades and one of the intelligence officers who developed from it were arrested and imprisoned in the eight-storey Chengchang Building in Guanlan Market.
They were unyielding and set fire to the building to destroy the stairs to await rescue in order to save themselves, while five comrades hid in the pool on the roof to avoid the fire. They persisted on the roof for several days, unable to escape, and insisted until 4 days, when one accidentally jumped to his death for escape.
In order to rescue these comrades, the guerrilla troops specially dispatched three small detachments from Ludongkui Chong and Henggang, and in coordination with the Guanlan Wugong Team, they dispatched for two consecutive nights to surround Chengchanglou. However, due to the tight defense of the Kuomintang joint defense team and the four intelligence officers trapped on the eighth floor, the guerrilla forces could not carry out rescue, and by the sixth day, the four comrades were escorted by the Kuomintang joint defense team to the Guanlan River Shaba and killed. Before they die, they see death as homecoming. Show the heroic nature of communists and revolutionary fighters who are indomitable and indomitable!
