Beijing, 17 Oct (Xinhua) -- Childhood is a period of high incidence of accidental injuries such as skin trauma and burns, and skin scars are often left after wound wounds are healed, which not only affects the appearance and function of organs, but also has a great impact on the psychological development of children.
Recently, the reporter came to the Department of Burn Plastic Surgery of Beijing Children's Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University to get a closer look at how the doctors here deal with these problems.
Scars are the "pain" that follows
"When the child was a child, he was burned by boiling water, and he left a large scar on the upper right side of his forehead and did not grow hair." One mother, with her 6-year-old son, is in the clinic and "has always wanted to give her child a hair transplant." ”
"The most appropriate treatment is hair transplantation." Wang Jiping, Distinguished Professor of Burn Plastic Surgery at Children's Hospital, told the child's mother, "The key to children's hair transplantation is anesthesia. ”

The reporter learned from the interview that hair transplantation needs to constantly change the patient's position during surgery, because the child's cooperation is low, in the past, it was usually only when the child grew up and the degree of cooperation was high, so that local anesthesia transplantation could be used. During this period, children may have negative emotions such as inferiority complex at school and socializing, which will affect their mental health development.
"The anesthesia techniques and measures of the children's hospital are very in place." Wang Jiping said that with the continuous improvement of technology and facilities, more and more children will no longer be trapped by scars.
At present, in view of the scars caused by various traumas in children, the Department of Burn Plastic Surgery of Beijing Children's Hospital has formulated a series of comprehensive treatment and management methods such as topical drug treatment, elastic compression, local injection, laser and surgery.
I want my child's life to be full of smiles
About 26 million people in China suffer burns of varying degrees every year, of which children account for about 30%, and 0 to 5 years old is the high incidence age.
"I remember a kid from Gansu who had burns and depressions on his head and wore a hat all the time." Wang Yanni, deputy director of the Burn Plastic Surgery Department of Children's Hospital, said that the "secondary damage" caused by scars to the child's psychology is no less than physical pain.
In 2019, the Department of Burn Plastic Surgery of Beijing Children's Hospital organized the first summer camp for children's burn scars with the theme of "We Are Together", inviting psychologists and parents to have in-depth exchanges, and many surgeons realized for the first time that too little attention was paid to children's mental health in their daily work.
"We are always working to refine and expand the range of disciplines covered by the department." Wang Yanni said, "We not only look forward to the children's injuries, but also hope that they will have a smile and self-confidence in their future lives." ”
Scientific treatment + psychological intervention
At present, there are 40 medical staff in the Burn Plastic Surgery Department of Beijing Children's Hospital, which not only forms a unique treatment plan in the aspects of children's burn rescue, wound repair, nutritional support and scar prevention, but also carries out the diagnosis and treatment and surgery of difficult children's burn plastic surgery diseases.
"Although the number of doctors in the department is not large, the scope of disciplines is relatively complete, and the overall medical education background is better." Wang Yanni said, "The work of the department is very intense, basically every operation day is very full, and emergency surgery is carried out at any time." ”
"I hope that more people can know our work, more people will pay attention to these special children, so that more people can understand that through scientific treatment and psychological intervention, these children can also have a better tomorrow." Wang Yanni said. (Contributor: Rao Miao)
