The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently released a video taken during the 2017 American Samoa expedition, revealing a variety of strange creatures in the deep-sea world, including a sci-fi jellyfish (pictured), which resembles a flying saucer.
The most amazing creature in this expedition was this strange jellyfish, which appeared on the first dive near the Utu Seamount.
In the video, the glowing jellyfish initially stretches out its tentacles and suspends itself motionless in the seawater, after which it contracts its tentacles into a completely different form.
The researchers also observed a variety of other fascinating creatures, including a pink anemone that resembles a flycatcher, an alien-like hydra, and a small fish that is "walking" on the seabed (pictured). The fish has spines on its flanks, like "little legs", which help it prey on small invertebrates on the seafloor. (Ren Tian)
"These are very beautiful creatures," the researchers say in the video, "and the tentacles of this anemone have tiny barbs that can inject venom." "In appearance, this anemone looks like a flycatcher.
Hydra is closely related to most jellyfish. The hydra in the picture has a circle of tentacles at the base, and a circle of tentacles around its mouth.
