Ben Foster recalls Capello coaching England: the clash with BeyErt made him questioned by the players

According to the "Mirror" report, former England international Ben Foster recalled that a conflict between David Beckham and england coach Capello at that time caused a gap between the English players and Capello.

As McLaren's successor, Capello was a controversial choice at the time because of his limited English skills and the departure of the last expatriate England manager, Eriksson, for poor performance. However, Capelo soon after taking office recalled Beckham, who was then playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, to the national team, who rarely made selection under McLaren.

However, as Ben Foster recalled in the podcast, it was also a clash between David Beckham and Capello that put the latter in doubt in the team.

Recalling the atmosphere at the time, Foster said: "The dressing room was not a particularly pleasant place, he (Capello) was a very strict head coach. I have some stories like this, when David Beckham was in England and we were playing at Wembley... I don't remember which game it was. That's before the warm-up, we usually go into the locker room an hour and a half before kick-off and go out about 40 minutes before kick-off to warm up, so there's still 45 minutes left to put on the gear, rub it, do some stretching. ”

"In the Wembley dressing room, there was space everywhere to do some activities. Beckham was there to practice passing with another guy with two feet touching the ball, I don't remember who it was, he kept doing that practice and staying in shape, and Capello came in at this time and he basically always had a moody face. He went straight to the middle of the two players, picked up the ball and walked away, as if to say, 'This is the dressing room.' Don't make a fool of yourself'. ”

"Everybody was watching and everybody was thinking 'this is Beckham, he just snatched the ball from Beckham'. I understand strictness, but this practice is to make everyone look at you and think 'This damn... Why are you doing this? ’”

The story may explain in part why England never really excelled under Capello. During his time in charge, while England managed to qualify for the following tournaments, they were eliminated by Germany at the 2010 World Cup and then abruptly resigned after England stripped Terry of his captainship.
