Danny Green was impressed by the "young outlook" of the 76ers

When the 76ers traded Al Horford for Danny Green on draft night 2020, there were more positives than giving up Horford's huge contract. Not only is Green better suited to the 76ers' All-Star lineup, but he also offers a much-needed veteran.

Although Green is not an NBA star, his resume is impressive. He was a member of three different championship teams, alongside some of the best talented players.

When building a team around two young stars, it's important to have good senior leaders. Green is a player who knows how to win games, which makes him a great veteran in the locker room, and the 76ers are taking a step toward the goal of competition.

While Green's focus now is on helping the 76ers win games, there are also long-term benefits to having players like him. At this stage of his career, he accepted mentorship and put some young players under his wing. Most notably, Green's mention of Matisse Tibur reminded him of himself.

Another player who needs to learn from Green is Isaiah Joe. With his stature and technique, he is perfectly capable of becoming a very similar player in his career. The former second-round pick was ignited in preseason, and the 76ers veteran wing took notice. After Sunday's training session, Green said Joe was another player he could see himself with.

"Absolutely. He's a man of great progress. He has a lot of potential. I love what he brings. Once his body develops a little bit more, he's going to be a good player in this league," Green said.

From mentor's point of view, Joe hit the jackpot and was drafted by the 76ers. He can learn a lot from Green and imitate his game. They may not have the same skills, but Joe has all the attributes to become a reliable three-dimensional wing like Green.

In his short NBA career, Joe has shown great flashes as a player who was taken down in the middle of the second round. If he can continue to develop his game and increase weight, there's a good chance Joe becomes a daily rotation player.

It's already the second year and he's struggling for a bigger role. In the 76ers' two preseason games, Joe was arguably the best player. He continues to show good base defense while shooting deep in the offensive.

Whether or not he gets more playing time this season, Joe will gain a lot by spending a lot of time with Green this season.

The reason for that is why the 76ers needed to keep Danny Green in the free agent market this past summer. His impact on the team will last longer than his days in Philadelphia. There's a good chance the players will still be talking about what Green is doing behind the scenes for their development for years to come.
