The first batch of international standards for animal welfare in China were released

In order to promote the development of animal welfare and improve the animal welfare technology level of industry personnel, the National Animal Health and Food Safety Innovation Alliance (CAFA), the governing unit of the alliance, Shanghai Yuezi Enterprise Information Consulting Co., Ltd. (IQC), reached a strategic cooperation agreement with the Humane Farm Animal Care Organization (HFAC), which plans to improve the lives of farm animals by providing feasible, trustworthy and appropriately monitored humane food production standards, and assure consumers that certified products meet these standards.

Dr. Xiong Chuanwu, Director of the Agricultural Sustainable Development Department of the National Animal Health and Food Safety Innovation Alliance and President of Shanghai Yuezi Enterprise Information Consulting Co., Ltd., introduced the current results of the Alliance's animal welfare science work, as of August 2021, the group standards "Dairy Cow Animal Welfare International Certification Standard", "Layer Animal Welfare International Certification Standard", "Broiler Animal Welfare International Certification Standard" and other contents, "Pig Animal Welfare International Certification Standard" and "Beef Cattle Animal Welfare International Certification Standard" are being drafted. It is expected that the International Certification Standard for Aquatic Animal Welfare will be issued in 2022.

Gather consensus, talk about welfare

Through theme reports, roundtable discussions and other forms, the conference discussed and analyzed topics such as global animal welfare industry policies and development trends, national standards for animal welfare, sustainable development of animal welfare in agriculture, the role of animal welfare in brand building, and the application and prospect of humane slaughtering technology, and objectively and deeply interpreted the current development status of the animal welfare industry from multiple dimensions and perspectives and analyzed the future development trend.

The conference was divided into the first and second halves, which were presided over by Professor Liu Jianzhu, Secretary General of the Animal Welfare and Healthy Breeding Branch of the Chinese Society of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine.

Presentations on dairy farming welfare technologies and their impact on milk production performance, sharing of humane slaughtering techniques in the UK and progress in welfare certification.
