In mid-December last year, Wu Qingcheng was investigated and punished by the police while driving drunk on a highway in The Gangchuan District. At that time, the alcohol concentration in Wu's blood reached the level of revoked driver's license. South Korean police said the matter was still under further investigation.
After the news of drunk driving broke, South Korean media pointed out that Wu Qing cost is a "habitual offender", south Korean State Council reported to the National Intelligence Committee in 2018 that before the Defection, Wu Qingcheng and his friends drank more than 10 bottles of shochu in Kaesong, and there was an accident while driving in a drunken state.
Two years ago, Wu Qingcheng attracted a lot of attention in South Korea because of his experience of defecting from the North, which was comparable to that of a Hollywood blockbuster.
At about 3 p.m. on November 13, 2017, U Qingcheng, then 23 years old, a 23-year-old Army corporal of the Korean People's Army, drove a military jeep south in an attempt to cross the Panmunjom Joint Security Zone. 10 metres away from the military demarcation line, the wheels were trapped in a gutter near the border posts and could not continue. He then ventured out of the car and headed wildly in the direction of South Korea. At that time, 3 North Korean soldiers who were pursuing him, along with 1 sentry in the post, 4 people fired more than 40 shots in a row. After being shot five times in the body, he fell unconscious 50 meters on the South Korean side of the military demarcation line. The South Koreans sent 3 soldiers to creep forward and take them away.
After several major surgeries, Wu Qingcheng was pulled back from the death line. On December 12 of the same year, South Korean security revealed that his condition was stable and had recovered to the point where he could move around.

After recovering and being investigated by the South Korean military, Wu Qingcheng made his home in Seoul. In April 2019, Wu Qingcheng gave his first interview to NBC television in the United States and made his first appearance in the media. Since then, he has also participated in local TV talk shows in South Korea many times, appearing as a healthy and handsome person.

Many South Korean netizens believe that he looks exactly like Xuan Bin, and there are even rumors that he is ready to participate in the draft debut. Wu Qingcheng has repeatedly publicly stated that he hopes to go to university in South Korea and enter law school.
