The green power exploration of Foshan's manufacturing industry under the "double carbon" policy

author:Foshan Daily

This summer, many Foshan manufacturing enterprises such as Foshan Chuandong Magnetoelectric Co., Ltd. have encountered power problems such as staggered peak rotation, emergency peak avoidance, over-planned power curtailment, and power curtailment. Although it has been put into the development of photovoltaic power generation a few years ago, Chuandong Magneto often encounters the situation that the photovoltaic power generation voltage is unstable or even suddenly cut off, and the production plan is greatly affected.

Do we strive to ensure that production plans are completed on time or do we listen to "electricity"? A large number of Foshan manufacturing enterprises, including Chuandong Magnetoelectric, have chosen to cross the river by feeling the stones, vigorously develop green electricity, and ensure power supply and maintain production order. However, in the face of the unfavorable situation of insufficient traditional power supply and poor stability of green electricity voltage, how can Foshan manufacturing enterprises explore a new path for energy supply in the manufacturing industry under the policy of "carbon peaking" and "carbon neutrality"?

The green power exploration of Foshan's manufacturing industry under the "double carbon" policy

Foshan Power Supply Bureau has taken many initiatives to help build photovoltaic power generation projects, and bus charging stations are one of them.

Aiming at the development of Western electricity and eastward transmission of Buddhist enterprises to the west

Since the beginning of this year, the weather in Foshan has continued to be hot, which is higher than the temperature in the same period of history. In May this year, Foshan's average temperature set a record for the same period since Guangdong had meteorological records. Up to now, Foshan's electricity load has refreshed the record for three times, with a maximum load of 13.71 million kilowatts, an increase of 2.33% year-on-year. In the first half of this year alone, Foshan's total electricity consumption increased by 20.62% year-on-year, and the average growth rate in two years was 7.11%.

Therefore, the Foshan power supply department comprehensively considers the load situation, orderly power consumption cycle, power consumption area and the safe and stable operation of the power grid, and implements measures such as staggered peak rotation, emergency peak avoidance, over-planned power rationing, and power rationing for Foshan enterprises. To a certain extent, this has led to the shortage of electricity and energy required for the production of many Foshan manufacturing enterprises.

Foshan Daily reporter learned from the Municipal Development and Reform Bureau's "Foshan City 2021 Orderly Electricity Use Work Plan" that there is theoretically no power shortage in Foshan in 2021. However, there are great uncertainties in extreme climate, fuel supply of unified regulation units, west-to-east power transmission, etc., and if the power supply of Guangdong Province declines significantly, there may be a power gap in Foshan during peak load hours.

In fact, the source of electricity in the Pearl River Delta region such as Foshan mainly relies on west-to-east electricity transmission. China's coal resources are mainly distributed in the western and northern regions, hydropower resources are mainly concentrated in the southwest region, and the primary energy resources in the eastern region are scarce and the electricity load is relatively concentrated。 The hydropower resources of the Nanpanjiang, Beipanjiang, and Hongshui rivers at the junction of the Wujiang River in Guizhou, the Lancang River in Yunnan, and the Hongshui River in Guizhou, as well as the electricity of the Kengkou Thermal Power Plant in The two provinces of Guizhou and Yunnan, are mainly developed and sent to Guangdong, forming a southern channel for the transmission of electricity from the west to the east.

In recent years, many Manufacturing Enterprises in Foshan have seen the advantages of sufficient power upstream of the East-to-East Power Transmission Channel, and have developed all the way to the west. For example, Mona Lisa Group, Oceano, Hongyu Group and other Foshan ceramic enterprises have invested in Guangxi, Jiangxi and other places to set up factories. Thanks to this, the industrialization process in the western region has accelerated, the demand for industrial electricity in the western region has further increased, and the upstream electricity consumption has increased. "When the western region encounters dry periods, the amount of electricity generated becomes even smaller. This has caused the amount of electricity delivered from the southern passage to Guangdong to continue to decline. At the same time, with the development of Foshan's manufacturing industry becoming more and more developed, Foshan's industrial power supply load has further increased. Dr. Han Xue of the Institute of Resources and Environmental Policy of the Development Research Center of the State Council said.

Today, standing at a new starting point of Foshan's total economic volume of more than one trillion yuan, Foshan's electricity demand continues to be strong, and Foshan manufacturing enterprises are undergoing severe electricity tests. In the face of the development goal of "peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and striving to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060", the power supply problem of Foshan manufacturing enterprises is imminent.

Layout photovoltaic power generation to carry the banner of green electricity

In the case of insufficient power supply and staggered peak electricity, many Foshan manufacturing enterprises have built production bases in the upstream area of the southern channel where west-to-east electricity is transmitted, and they have high-quality and sufficient power supply resources for the first time. However, this is not the cure. Many far-sighted Manufacturing Enterprises in Foshan have begun to lay out new energy fields such as photovoltaic power generation, and strive to carry the banner of green electricity.

In July this year, Guangdong Jianyi Group Ceramics Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement with Sant Shixing Group Co., Ltd. in Beijing. The two parties will carry out strategic cooperation on the integration of photovoltaic buildings on the roof of the wuzhou production base in Guangxi, covering a total area of about 1,500 mu, actively promote the transformation of the energy structure of the manufacturing industry, and practice the concept of green and low-carbon circular development. This project refers to the "World Lighthouse Factory" standard, scientifically utilizes land and plant roof resources, and takes the lead in the ceramic industry to simultaneously adopt the integrated design of building photovoltaics for photovoltaic power generation. After the completion of the project, it is expected that the average annual photovoltaic power generation capacity will be 60 million kWh, the average annual savings of standard coal will be 20,000 tons, the carbon dioxide emission reduction will be 54,000 tons, and the sulfur dioxide emission reduction will be 160 tons.

As the pillar industry of Foshan's manufacturing industry, Foshan ceramics has always been a large energy user. With the in-depth implementation of the concept of green environmental protection, the insightful Foshan ceramic enterprises laid out early, took the lead in exploring green sustainable development, and excavated the plasticity of green electricity. In addition to Jianyi, there are also Shuncheng Group, New Pearl Group, Dongpeng Holdings, JinyiTao, Oceano and many other leading ceramic enterprises in Foshan in recent years have cooperated with photovoltaic power generation construction enterprises to lay out photovoltaic power generation projects for spontaneous self-use and surplus electricity on the Internet. According to incomplete statistics, since 2016, the total number of ceramic plant roof distributed photovoltaic power generation projects approved by various ceramic production areas across the country has reached 211.

Guangdong Shuncheng Ceramics Group Co., Ltd. completed a distributed photovoltaic power generation project with an installed capacity of 10.8 MWp on the roof of a 65,000-square-meter warehouse at its Gaoming Best production base. The average annual power generation capacity of the project is about 10 million kWh, which can save 1230 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8800 tons per year. New Pearl Group Co., Ltd. is also using the 80,300-square-meter color steel tile roof of its Summit production base to build a distributed photovoltaic power generation project with an installed capacity of 12 MWp, which is expected to generate 10,936,100 kWh per year. Li Ping, director of intelligent manufacturing and energy of New Pearl Group, said that next, the construction of new factories and the transformation of old factories in other production bases of New Pearl will build photovoltaic power generation projects.

In the context of "carbon peaking", Mona Lisa Group adjusted its development ideas and took green electricity first. Liu Yijun, vice president of Mona Lisa Group, introduced that each square meter of roof can generate 100 degrees of electricity a year, while Mona Lisa Group has thousands of acres of production sites and more than 300,000 square meters of factory buildings, photovoltaic power generation prospects are promising, and is also considering cooperation with relevant service providers to carry the banner of green electricity.

Aim at the green electric outlet to deal with the "double carbon" policy

Under the "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality" policies, the speed of de-capacity of the ceramic industry will be much faster than the past market competition and environmental protection storms, and the intensity will be fiercer. Ceramic companies have no room for luck, either to pay efforts and costs to reduce carbon and carbon neutrality, or to withdraw from the ceramic industry.

In May this year, the Foshan Federation of Industry and Commerce launched the 2020 Foshan Private Enterprise Social Responsibility Research Activity, and Zhang Qikang, a director of Mona Lisa Group, as a representative of the meeting, analyzed how private enterprises should actively fulfill their social responsibilities under the "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality" policies. In his view, the ceramics, glass, cement and other building materials industries still use large power grid thermal power generation in the short term, but the carbon emissions generated by thermal power generation are large, and most of the carbon emission indicators need to be borne by the electricity consumption unit. Therefore, ceramic enterprises can take advantage of the characteristics of occupying a large area and having a large plant area to make large-area rooftop photovoltaic power generation the fastest and most effective carbon reduction path.

After the implementation of photovoltaic power generation, the annual photovoltaic power generation capacity per 100,000 square meters of plant roof can reach about 10 million degrees, which can bring about 11,000 tons of negative carbon targets per year. As long as the enterprise obtains the green certificate, it can replace a certain amount of carbon dioxide emissions, which is 5% of the total verified carbon dioxide emissions generated by the enterprise in the production process. After a large amount of carbon reduction, companies can reduce the purchase of carbon indicators from carbon trading centers, thereby reducing carbon expenses. This not only contributes to the green economy, but also saves companies a cost.

"If calculated according to the 1 kWh discount of 1 dime, a self-use ceramic plant rooftop photovoltaic power generation project with an annual power generation capacity of 10 million kWh can save at least 1 million yuan in electricity costs for the ceramic factory every year." At the first carbon peak seminar of Foshan ceramic industry in 2021, Jing Haishan, deputy general manager of Foshan Delite Technology Co., Ltd., introduced the experience of photovoltaic power generation to the participants. As soon as the voice dropped, many of the merchants attending the meeting took out their mobile phones and silently calculated the energy account.

"The problem of energy use safety and insufficient supply is a big problem that plagues the development of ceramic enterprises." Xie Dahai, executive director of Guangdong Hemei Ceramics Co., Ltd., believes that in recent years, the unstable supply of energy such as electricity and natural gas has forced many enterprises to improve product quality and aim at green electricity outlets.

Miao Bin, president of the China Building Sanitary Ceramics Association, pointed out that the natural gas currently promoted by the ceramic industry is a "carbon neutral" transitional energy, electricity will become the main force of energy in the future, green electricity such as wind power, hydropower, photovoltaic power generation and other green electricity is the development direction of electric energy in the future, and electric kiln will be a new direction for the development of energy technology in the building sanitary ceramics industry.

Accelerate the construction of a modern energy ecosystem

Although many Foshan manufacturing companies are ambitiously involved in photovoltaic power generation, the instability of photovoltaic power generation is plaguing some enterprises. As a new energy source, green electricity such as photovoltaic power generation inevitably needs to go through a process from small to large, from imperfect to relatively perfect. In this process, industries, enterprises and experts need to jointly explore and solve pain points and accelerate the construction of a modern energy ecosystem.

Kang Cuiling, head of Chuandong Magnetoelectric, introduced that in order to cope with the staggered peak of electricity consumption, the company has invested in the development of photovoltaic power generation as early as a few years ago. But when using photovoltaic power generation, the company often encounters voltage instability or sudden power outages. The power stability of photovoltaic power generation is not good compared with traditional power generation, which is very expensive for production equipment.

"Sulfur dioxide, dust and heat generated during the production process of the equipment will all have an impact on the photovoltaic power generation equipment." Huang Huining, vice chairman of the Foshan Ceramic Society, said to reporters when analyzing the reasons for the instability of photovoltaic power generation, in addition to the factors mentioned above, the service life of photovoltaic panels is also an important factor affecting the stability of photovoltaic power generation. Because the entire use cycle of photovoltaic panels is controversial, there are 20 years, 17 years, 15 years, 14 years.

In the face of the challenges brought by this new power system to the reliable power supply, safety and stability of the power grid, China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., as the power supply department, is also thinking about this proposition. Rao Hong, chief technical expert of China Southern Power Grid Corporation and secretary of the Party Committee of china Southern Power Grid Research Institute, pointed out that in terms of reliable power supply, new energy power generation has randomness, volatility and intermittentness, and after large-scale grid connection, it will put forward higher requirements for new energy resource assessment and power generation forecasting, power balance, large-scale resource allocation, large-scale energy storage and other technologies.

"To solve the problem of power instability, it is necessary to continue to expand the depth and breadth of power reliability management, accelerate the integration of distributed new energy sources such as wind power generation and solar power generation, as well as independent distribution networks, into the reliability management system, and escort the reform and development of the power industry." Zhou Xia, director of the Reliability Management Center of the China Electricity Council, said.

In order to actively respond to the national strategic deployment of "carbon peaking" and "carbon neutrality" and make every effort to do a good job in new energy grid-connected services, Foshan Power Supply Bureau, as the only pilot city bureau for China Southern Power Grid to build a modern power supply service system, takes the initiative to dock with the majority of Foshan manufacturing enterprises, plans the project access system plan in advance, and accelerates the construction of grid-connected access projects.

The relevant person in charge of the Foshan Power Supply Bureau said that the power supply department is constantly innovating value-added services for electricity consumption, relying on the Online App of the Southern Grid, implementing value-added services such as temporary electricity leasing and sharing, power distribution operation and maintenance, cold storage and storage, and comprehensive energy services in the park, and continuously improving the energy utilization level of customers. In addition, the power supply sector will build a more efficient, green and economical modern energy ecosystem with the digital grid as the link, and play an active role in green and low-carbon technology research, standard formulation, electricity market, policy formulation, and mechanism construction.
