The sixth affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University gave a positive answer, and recently, the orthopedic surgery of the hospital successfully completed artificial femoral head replacement surgery for a 96-year-old elderly patient. This is the oldest patient in the hospital since the operation was performed, and the elderly are currently recovering well after the operation.

Last month, 96-year-old Sun Ying (pseudonym) accidentally fell in the bathroom of her home, causing a fracture of the left femur neck, and was admitted to the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University in the emergency department on the same day. After examination, it was found that there are more basic diseases in the elderly - there are many chronic diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, chronic bronchitis, arrhythmias and so on.
96 years of age itself is a high risk factor, the function of the elderly organs has declined, cardiopulmonary reserve function is poor, anesthesia, surgical tolerance is low, the risk of surgery is extremely high. But without surgery, Grandma would still be in danger.

Fractures are one of the most dangerous traumas faced by the elderly. The regenerative capacity of the elderly bone is weakened, the bone density is decreasing, the brittleness of the bone is increased, and minor trauma may cause serious fractures.
The elderly have a fracture of the proximal femur, often referred to as the "last fracture in life", and once it occurs, the life is in danger. Because after the fracture of the proximal femur in the elderly, it is very difficult to turn over and sit up, and because of blood circulation, the fracture healing time is relatively long, and even difficult to heal, often making the elderly go to the ground very late, long-term bed rest is easy to cause complications such as collapsed pneumonia, urinary tract infection, deep vein thrombosis and pressure ulcers, no matter what kind of complications occur, it is often fatal.

Li Lubing, deputy director of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, said: "In order to restore the quality of life before injury in elderly patients, artificial femoral head replacement is the preferred treatment plan. Artificial femoral head replacement surgery is a mature routine surgery for the orthopedic department of our hospital, but it is the first time that surgery has been performed for a 96-year-old patient. ”
After soliciting the opinions of the family, the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University quickly conducted a multidisciplinary consultation of the whole hospital, and after detailed assessment by experts in respiratory medicine, cardiology, intensive care medicine, anesthesiology and other departments, it was decided to treat Sun Ying surgically, and the experts improved preoperative preparation and related examinations, and formulated a detailed surgical plan and intraoperative emergency plan according to the physical condition of the elderly.
Under the escort of the anesthesia department, the orthopedic surgery team successfully completed the left artificial femoral head replacement for Sun Ying. The operation was performed by Li Lubing, which took only more than 20 minutes, and the bleeding in the operation was about 50ml, and there was no blood transfusion during or after the operation, which was completed very quickly, efficiently and smoothly.
On the 2nd day after the operation, Sun Ying stood up under the support of the medical staff and began to walk to the ground for rehabilitation, before going to the ground, the old man himself could not believe it, and repeatedly asked: "Can I do it?" Now, she has been able to walk indoors with a walker and has returned to her preoperative level of activity.

Sun Ying's daughter said with great gratitude: "It is the superb medical skills and meticulous care of all the medical staff of the orthopedic surgery department that made my old mother stand up again, thank you." ”
