Gran Holland
The music teacher in the movie "Life Sounds Because of You"
01
Life's encounters
Mr. Holland's lifelong ideal was to create a symphony of great success and become a brilliant composer, but in order to make ends meet, he had no choice but to become a music teacher in high school. However, he is very conscientious in his position, using music to build a bridge of communication and love with students and relatives. Although there was estrangement and conflict with his son, who was congenitally deaf, he worked hard to resolve it. He expressed his fatherly feelings with music that his son could see, and he guided his son through a successful life with sincerity.
02
Life is beautiful because of whom
Fall of 1964, Oregon, USA. In order to earn money to complete his career, the ambitious composer Gran Holland got a job as a music teacher in a middle school. He did so as a matter of resignation, and the burden of family life forced him to face reality. On his first day at school, the students with poor musical foundation gave him an embarrassing dismissal.
Not only were they out of tune when playing instruments, but even the famous classical composer Bach had never heard of it. Holland's confidence was taken a hit, and headmistress Jacob repeatedly made kind criticisms of him. When her husband's work was frustrated, his wife, who worked in photography, patiently persuaded and comforted him; his friend, Bill Meister, a physical education teacher, also used his personal experience since teaching to prove to Holland that teaching students needs selfless love and sufficient time.
03
Our future is the most successful symphony
Under Holland's careful cultivation, the white student Gerchut Lan and the black student Louis Ruth, who had no knowledge of music, learned the clarinet and the drum respectively.
Just when Holland was immersed in the life of teaching, his son was born, who knew that he was a congenital deaf child. This blow shifted Holland's focus on the family.
It's hard to say that a person who loves music can't love life, and so does Mr. Holland. But when he was too old to be fired by the principal, he was really confused, counting his decades one by one, without the success of composition and the harvest of wealth, and he was too far from the musical dream he pursued. He was disappointed: he had spent his whole life doing nothing and no one would remember him. However, he was wrong. At the farewell party held for him by his former students, he realized the value of his life. As Ling puts it: "You may think you've been doing nothing in your life, but our excellent future is your most successful symphony, and we, your students, are the beating notes in your beautiful melody." ”

summary
The film also explains to us the true meaning of education. The words of the headmistress, in reproaching Mr. Holland for leaving school in a hurry as soon as he finished his class (at this time he was still using education as a profession and a means of earning a living): "Education is not only about imparting knowledge to students, but more importantly about guiding them." ”
If life is really as the film says: "God has placed a dream in everyone's heart, and at the same time laid the farthest distance under his feet, so that the dream has many forks, and we have our dreams waiting for a traffic light and running to the unknown journey." "Then I think the teacher is the one who gives direction to the person who gives direction under the traffic light at the fork in the road, and education is the behavior of the teacher to guide the direction."
