This is the qing dynasty calligrapher Wu Rangzhi's masterpiece of seal writing, and the title has been written on the far right:
Cui Ziyu motto.
This Cui Ziyu, surnamed Cui Mingyi, ziyu, lived in the Eastern Han Dynasty.
Cui Yi was originally a famous person, and Zhang Heng, who invented the ground motion instrument, was a small child, and he once worshiped the famous Confucian master Jia Kui as a teacher.
Cui Yan was a hot-blooded young man when he was young, when his brother was killed, he chose to take revenge and stabbed the enemy family.
After killing people, Cui Yu began to run, and it was not until he caught up with the amnesty that he returned home.
When he returned home, Cui Yu was already forty years old, and it was probably then that he wrote this motto.
This is the first work in history to be named "Motto", and the reason why it is called "Motto" is because he put these words on the right side and always remembered:
If there is no way to be short, don't say your own strength.
Be careful not to think about it, and be careful not to forget it when you are given.
The world reputation is not enough, but ren is the discipline.
Conceal your heart and then move, slandering and discussing what hurts.
No one is too real, and the sanctuary of foolishness is hidden.
In Nirvana, there is no light in the ambiguous.
In the years of the weak and weak, the old clan ring is strong.
Line of contempt, leisurely and difficult to measure.
Eat carefully, contentment is better than ominousness.
Perseverance, long-lasting fragrance.
In general, this "motto" is quite popular, and the most difficult sentence may be this:
Here is an allusion to the Analects.
At that time, Confucius wanted to become an official under a bad man, and his students expressed doubts, so the son knew:
Not firm, grinding but not phosphorus; not white, nirvana without stubbornness.
Didn't you say you were hard? That should not be polished thinly; doesn't it mean that it is white? That should not be stained black.
Nirvana, is a mineral pigment that turns things black;
That is to say, on the side of black paint, it is not blackened. ✍
[Ambiguous contains light], note that this is [ambiguous], not "warm" ❗❗
The right side of the ambiguity is love, if it is traditional love, you can see that there is a heart here, which can also be found by looking at Wu Rangzhi's seal book.
[Ambiguous] is dim daylight, so "ambiguous" has an inexplicable meaning.
[Ambiguous contains light], which translates as dim and dim on the outside, but contains light on the inside.
By the way, Kim Carey has a love movie called Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which literally translates to "Eternal Sunshine of a Beautiful Mind."
Later, some netizens translated it as "ambiguous contains light", but it became "warm and warm containing light".
"The Virtuous Woman"
Speaking of Cui Zhen, in fact, he is also a calligrapher.
Yuan Ang, a southern dynasty book critic, inventoried 25 calligraphers in the Ancient and Modern Book Review, including Cui Yan:
Cui Ziyu is like a dangerous peak blocking the sun, a lone pine branch, with a sense of despair.
[Dangerous peak obstruction day], [lone pine a branch], the traditional book theory is like this, love to use metaphors, people who seem to understand non-understanding, it is estimated that it is a good calligraphy.
Cui Yu's calligraphy works are difficult to see today.
There is a "Virtuous Woman's Post" in the "Chunhua Ge Ti", but some people say that this does not reflect his true level.
In addition to practice, Cui Also has a theoretical work "Cursive Writing Posture".
This article is almost the earliest book theory we can see at present, the first half of the recounting the history of Chinese characters, and then saying that people created cursive for convenience:
The rise of the book deed began with the Emperor Jie; write the traces of the birds to determine the article... Cursive writing, covered and abbreviated; should be referred to in the time, for the purpose of persecution.
The Chinese characters were created by Cangjie, who was inspired by the traces of birds and beasts and formulated the script. As for cursive writing, it is a simplification of the previous Chinese characters to facilitate daily writing.
In the second half, a series of metaphors are used to praise cursive writing:
The beast is on its toes, and it is determined to fly; the cunning rabbit is violent and terrifying, and it will run... If the mountain bee is poisoned, look at the gap margin (xī); the snake goes to the cave, and the head is hanging down.
Like a beast tiptoeing up, a bird shrugging its body, about to fly away; like a cunning rabbit suddenly frightened, about to run but not yet at that moment...
Like a mountain bee casting poisonous gas, it came in along the steep gap, and like a snake rushing to the cave, its head stuck in and its tail still hanging outside.
As mentioned earlier, the characteristic of traditional book theory is the love of using various magical metaphors.
These metaphors are not easy to use rational analysis, it is more of a feeling, I don't know if you feel it?
