Visit Academician Li Can
On the morning of September 29, 2021, Hexi College held a celebration meeting for the 80th anniversary of its founding. Mr. Li Can, the most famous alumnus of Hexi University, the honorary dean of the Special Appointment, the famous chemical physicist, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences, and the world-class leader in the field of solar energy research, came to attend the meeting in a busy schedule. As a student of my alma mater, I also took advantage of its prosperity and had the opportunity to briefly visit Academician Li Can, who had long admired, between meetings.
The reason why I bothered Academician Li Can was because of an article three years ago. In the spring of 2019, at a casual gathering, based on the intermittent accounts of my relatives, I wrote an essay reminiscing about Mr. Qu Wenmin, a professor of English at Hexi University, "Mr. Qu Wenmin", which involved Academician Li Can a lot. After the article was published, it caused some repercussions within a certain range. However, because I was listening to the side notes, I have always been worried about whether the content of the article about Academician Li Can is accurate and whether there are any discrepancies, but I have not had the opportunity to ask Academician Li Can for verification and consultation in person. This time, Academician Li Can came to participate in the celebration of his alma mater, and the opportunity was rare, so I took advantage of the meeting to visit Mr. Li in the conference hall of the Hexi Pulpit as a student.
Academician Li Can is humble and elegant, simple and easy, and everyone is decent. Due to the limited time, after a brief conversation, I said the doubts in my heart, added WeChat, left the phone, and hurriedly left. After the meeting, I sent "Mr. Qu Wenmin" to the Academician's WeChat. Unexpectedly, at noon that day, the academician Gu Gu could not take a lunch break to read my humble article, and replied to me with a long WeChat, he first affirmed my article, and then made a detailed explanation of several discrepancies in the text. Academicians are academicians, Mr. Li Can's modesty, prudence and meticulousness, courtesy corporal, meticulous gentleman's style, this kind of matter is handled in great detail, and the scientist's spirit of treating people with no height or inferiority and being honest and honest made me deeply moved, which made me deeply convinced, and I felt deeply sorry for my hearsay and wrote articles. Mr. Qu Wenmin, Zi Jinwu, Longxi Caizi, English Professor, Famous Teacher of Gan Province, Charity Elderly. At an early age, he studied private school, read the Four Books and Five Classics, enjoyed a good name in his youth, the family was proud, and then studied in Lanzhou, Beijing and other places, and graduated from Beijing Normal University during the Republic of China, proficient in English and Russian foreign languages, and profound achievements in traditional Chinese studies. He has taught at Lanzhou No. 1 Middle School, Longxi No. 1 Middle School, and Longxi Normal School. In 1980, he transferred to Zhangye Teachers' College, which is now Hexi College, to teach English. He is a noble teacher, indifferent to fame and fortune, preaching and teaching, tireless, and in his eighties he also volunteered to hold English tutoring classes and translate various materials for others for free, until he was ninety years old and did not really retire. He died in 2011 at the age of 95.
Mr. Is well-read, knowledgeable, has a heart for his home and country, and has a kind heart. From the late 1950s to the Cultural Revolution, he was repeatedly devastated by wind, frost, rain and snow, leaving his hands with lifelong disabilities. But he persevered and survived. After rehabilitating Zhaoxue and returning to the podium, he took the initiative to ask for help, and came to Zhangye Shizhuan, which was founded on a fledgling scale and had poor conditions, and with the spirit of the old cow knowing that the sunset was short and did not need to be whipped and self-hoofed, he would make his own knowledge of the present and ancient times and integrate the achievements of China and the West, spare no effort, pour out all his strength, teach students, and Zilan Shuhui. Sir does not seek to learn, but to seek to understand. But Tao Li is speechless, self-made, famous teacher style, and well-known.
When I was in school at the former Zhangye Teachers' College, I often met Mr. Qu Lao on campus, a well-dressed and unassuming elder. Unfortunately, because I studied Chinese major, my husband taught foreign languages, so I didn't have the opportunity to ask for advice. After graduation, there is no intersection, but I am familiar with my husband's family. A few days ago, I had dinner with my husband's daughter, and during the dinner, she told me about the past of Mr. Qu Lao and Mr. Li Can, the most outstanding graduate and famous scientist of Hexi College:
Mr. Li Can, a proud and proud senior alumnus, a well-known chemical physicist at home and abroad, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the director of the National Laboratory for Clean Energy of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, continued to study hard while staying on to teach after graduation that year. He still studied English on his own like a student and audited qu teacher's Intensive English reading class. In order to understand Mr. Qu's lectures, he took the time before each lesson to look up the words he did not know and mark them on the textbook, because there were many new words, and each page was densely marked. By chance, Teacher Qu saw it, was greatly moved, greatly appreciated, warmly encouraged Li Can to observe the lessons, and often gave counseling, which played an important role in laying a good foundation for Li Can's English.
Later, Mr. Li Can lived up to his high expectations and won countless awards for his pioneering research and outstanding achievements in the field of chemical physics at home and abroad, and was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences. To this day, Academician Li Can is still a world-class leader in solar energy research at home and abroad, especially in the fields of solar photocatalysis, photocatalysis, solar cells and other scientific research.
Mr. Qu's daughter said that the tree is thousands of feet tall, not forgetting the fundamentals, Academician Li Can loves his alma mater, does not forget the teacher's kindness, is very concerned about the development and construction of Hexi College, and is also very grateful to the teacher and concerned about his classmates. In his busy schedule, he has visited Hexi College many times. Of course, every time I came back, I had to go to the door to see Mr. Qu. Once, he also brought some raw seafood from Dalian to the teacher, and the teacher and the student reunited after a long absence and talked happily. When Mr. Li Can resigned and went out, Mr. Qu was anxious to order his family to distribute the raw seafood to everyone. After a lifetime of frugality, coarse tea and light rice, and he is willing to be charitable, so that other teachers and friends can also share the pure love of academician students.

As a descendant of the junior generation, as a student who graduated from Zhangye Teacher's College, although I was unable to listen to Mr. Qu's teachings in person, I recently overheard his daughter inadvertently tell Mr. Qu's anecdotes, and I was in awe.
