In July this year, the 12th meeting of the Central Committee for Comprehensively Deepening Reform deliberated and adopted the Action Plan for the Revitalization of the Seed Industry, which elevated seed source security to a strategic level related to national security. In fact, the revitalization of the seed industry is not only a national strategic requirement, but also an urgent need for industrial upgrading and market terminals.
Wen Jie said that China's livestock and poultry genetic improvement work has achieved certain achievements, and has achieved the initial establishment of a livestock and poultry breeding system, a significant improvement in the production performance of livestock and poultry, an continuous enhancement of the innovation ability of the livestock and poultry breeding industry, and the breeding of more than 90 new varieties and supporting lines. "Yellow feather broiler is a breed independently cultivated in China, and the layer chicken and meat duck industry has broken the monopoly of foreign countries," Wen Jie said, "At present, China has built 17 national broiler core breeding farms and 16 national broiler breeding expansion and promotion bases." ”
Thinking of danger in times of peace, Wen Jie pointed out that there is still a certain gap between China's broiler breeding industry and the international advanced level: the ancestral chickens of white feather chickens have long relied on imports and lack of breeding materials; the overall breeding technology of yellow feather broilers is weak; the phenomenon of breeding homogenization is serious, and there are fewer core varieties; and it is impossible to meet the market demand of centralized slaughter and fresh listing.

The National Broiler Genetic Improvement Program (2021-2035) is an important part of the new round of the National Livestock and Poultry Genetic Improvement Program, and Wen Jie explained the specific contents of the plan in detail at the meeting site.
The National Broiler Genetic Improvement Program (hereinafter referred to as the "Program") has two overall objectives. First, by 2035, it is expected to breed more than 30 new breeds (lines) of broilers, including 4 to 6 white-feathered broilers, achieving zero breakthroughs; second, it is expected that the market share of independently bred varieties will reach more than 80%, of which white-feathered broilers will reach more than 60%.
At the same time, the plan puts forward four key tasks, namely, strengthening the national broiler breeding independent innovation system, strengthening the breeding and promotion system of broiler chickens, strengthening the national broiler breeding support system, and strengthening the purification of vertical transmission of diseases in broiler breeding sources. In addition, the plan sets corresponding core indicators for yellow feather broilers, white feather broilers and small white feather broilers to guide the specific work.
At the end of the report, Wenjie shared the development trend of broiler breeding technology, and introduced in detail the latest related technologies such as new phenotype and high-throughput automated phenotypic precision determination technology, molecular marker-assisted breeding technology, genome selection technology and broiler meat quality breeding technology.
