On September 25, the 14th National Games Athletics Women's Heptathlon Competition came to an end, and Zheng Ninali, the first naturalized athlete in Chinese athletics and Shanxi Jian'er, won the gold medal with a total score of 6026. This is the sixth gold medal won by the Shanxi sports delegation at the National Games.
The women's track and field heptathlon competition at the National Games was held over two days, and Zheng Ninali was the only Shanxi player in this competition. After fierce competition, Zheng Ninali won the first place in the four sub-events of 100 meters hurdles, shot put, long jump and 800 meters, second in the high jump and 200 meters, and the javelin ranked third, with a total score of 6026 points, and finally won the gold medal in the women's heptathlon, which greatly improved the performance of domestic players in this event.
Zheng Ninali, 23 years old, is of mixed Chinese and German descent, formerly Canadian, and once ranked first in the world in the women's heptathlon U20. Her grandmother, Zheng Fengrong, is a famous Chinese high jumper who achieved a 1.77-meter high jump in 1957 and was the first female athlete in China to break the world record. Zheng Ninali's grandfather Duan Qiyan is the gold medalist in the men's high jump at the first National Games. Under the infection of her grandmother and grandfather, in 2018, Zheng Ninali joined the Chinese nationality on her 20th birthday and submitted a statement to the IAAF, expressing her willingness to represent China in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and becoming China's first naturalized athlete in athletics.
At the Tokyo Olympics, Zheng Ninali, who participated in the Olympic Games for the first time, ranked 10th with a score of 6318 points, creating the best result of Chinese athletes in this event.
Realizing the dream of the Olympic Games, winning the gold games, Zheng Ninali's dream journey continues, "I know that I have a lot of room to grow upwards, and then I will protect my body and then focus on preparing for next year's Asian Games." (Li Qianqian) Shanxi Daily
