The "retreat" from the education track to byteDance, on the other side in a steady layout of the medical track.
Within one day of September 9 this year, ByteDance announced two related financings, investing in two medical companies, the United States and China Yihe and Hongda Ari.
U.S.-China Yihe, namely Beijing U.S.-China Yihe Medical Management (Group) Co., Ltd., is a professional women's and children's hospital for mid-to-high-end customers nationwide, providing one-stop services for obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, assisted reproduction, postpartum rehabilitation, postpartum recuperation, and medical cosmetology. Up to now, there are 7 women's and children's hospitals, 2 comprehensive outpatient centers and 5 confinement centers.
The capitalization of this private clinic began in 2011 and has completed 8 rounds of financing so far. There are many well-known institutions and industrial capitals such as Hillhouse Capital, Legend Capital, Huaxing Capital and WuXi AppTec on the capital directory. After byteDance's strategic investment, a new shareholder, Xiaohe Health Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. was added. Xiaohe Health acquired 17.58% of the shares of the United States and China Yihe at one time, which was the proceeds of the transfer of two old shareholders (the two old shareholders are companies under the TusS Department of Tsinghua University).
Founded in 2018, Hongda Ari is a multidisciplinary consultation platform for cancer, providing users with services such as patient exchange, oncology science popularization, and expert micro-courses. Since its establishment three years ago, it has obtained five rounds of financing, investors include Sino-Ocean Capital, Dapu Capital, TusPark Service Group and other institutions, Xiaohe Health purchased 10.71% of the equity of Hongda Ari this time, which is also the transfer income of tusS old shareholders. According to the information of Tianyancha App, Hongda Ari owns two brands: Beijing U.S.-China Ari Cancer Hospital and Chengdu Xinchang Technology.
It is worth noting that the United States and China Yihe indirectly hold 8.8% of the shares of Hongda Ari.
Public information shows that the actual controllers of the United States-China Yihe and Hongda Ari are the same person: Hu Lan. Hu Lan graduated from Peking University School of Medicine (formerly Beijing Medical University), went to Ohio Medical College to pursue a doctorate, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan. From 2002 to 2005, he worked for JPMorgan Chase, a well-known investment bank in the United States.
U.S.-China and financing history
In 2006, he started with obstetrics and founded U.S.-China Yihe, and then expanded its business upstream and downstream through integrated acquisitions with obstetrics as the core, including the industrial chain layout from midwifery to maternity, postpartum, pediatrics, gynecology and medical aesthetic services. Hu Lan said in an interview with "Health Circle", "At present, the United States and China Yihe are building every node in the whole industry chain, and in the future, we hope that the United States and China Yihe will create a closed loop of medical services for women, children and even other members of the family from prenatal to fertility services until aging." ”
U.S.-China Business Map
According to the latest data from the National Health Commission, private medical institutions are increasing year by year. As of the end of May 2020, there were 35,000 new hospitals, of which 12,000 were public hospitals and 23,000 were private hospitals, compared with the end of May 2019, public hospitals have decreased, but the opening of private hospitals has increased by 1,291. However, in the first half of 2020, contrary to the growth in the number of hospitals, the total number of patients in private medical institutions fell sharply by 21%.
With the impact of the epidemic, the cooling of capital, and the pressure of various expenses such as rent and personnel costs, private hospitals are unlikely to develop various disciplines in an all-round way to compete with public hospitals, but they can concentrate on the development of a certain department and reach the top state.
U.S.-China Yihe is also focusing on new businesses. Public information shows that the proportion of obstetric business in the United States and China is falling from 80% to 40%, and it has begun to tilt towards the field of assisted reproduction. In 2018, assisted reproductive technologies including IUI and single-cell intraplastic injection were officially carried out after acceptance by the regulatory authorities; in the same year, the Reproductive Health Department was established, marking the opening of the strategic layout of the comprehensive development of the reproductive sector in the United States and China. In 2020, the United States and China Yihe quickly completed the acquisition of Baodao International Hospital, one of only three private assisted reproduction licensed operators in Beijing; in this way, the United States and China Yihe has the former's assisted reproduction license.
ByteDance's entry into the game represents its high focus on cutting-edge medical technology and business models.
In addition to the above two medical institutions, ByteDance's multiple investments in the medical field have been exposed, and the medical map has also surfaced.

In May 2020, through the acquisition of Encyclopedia Famous Doctor for 500 million yuan, It marked ByteDance's official entry into the medical field.
According to public information, Encyclopedia Famous Doctor was established in May 2010, has been focusing on the production and dissemination of authoritative medical science content, and has a medical content platform Encyclopedia Famous Doctor Network, focusing on the production of high-quality PGC medical science content. For this investment, ByteDance has publicly stated, "We expect that Encyclopedia Famous Doctors will inject richer and better medical science content into today's headlines, vibrato, watermelon videos and other products to better meet the needs of users to obtain practical medical and health knowledge." ”
In terms of product integration, "Encyclopedia Famous Doctor" later became the traffic entrance of ByteDance's online medical information retrieval and science popularization, and was later renamed "Little Dutch Medical Code".
On the track of medical science information, the giants have long had a layout: in May 2018, Ali Health launched "Medical Deer"; in January 2019, Tencent Medical Code APP was launched; in March 2019, Baidu launched the "Encyclopedia Medical Code" (later renamed Baidu Health Medical Code).
In December of the same year, ByteDance struck again and acquired Wu Haifeng, former vice president of Baidu, which was founded in 2019 by Wu Haifeng, former vice president of Baidu. In fact, the company operates a comprehensive Internet hospital certified by the National Health Commission, with 7 first-level disciplines and 1 remote diagnosis and treatment center, forming a perfect medical service model based on the convenient and efficient characteristics of the Internet.
After being acquired by ByteDance, the hospital was renamed Hainan Xiaohe Health Technology Co., Ltd. According to the Titanium Media App, the consultation service provided by the Xiaohe App relies on the Hainan Zero Zero Four Internet Hospital.
After a month, Byte Capital once again intervened to acquire Songuo Medical. The latter is a high-end modern comprehensive medical institution featuring "large specialties and small comprehensives" and integrating online and offline services such as medical treatment, prevention and health management, mainly focusing on internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, general medicine, stomatology, dermatology, traditional Chinese medicine, health management and other aspects.
Songguo Medical, later known as "Xiaohe Clinic", is located on the 1st floor of the e World Fortune Center in Zhongguancun, Haidian District, Beijing. According to the Titanium Media App, Xiaohe Clinic is currently in the trial operation stage, and has also received a "task" assigned by the Haidian District CDC - Xiaohe Clinic is temporarily set as a "three-needle" recombinant protein vaccination site in Haidian, and residents can make an appointment for vaccination on the Xiaohe App.
Relying on the above three investments, ByteDance has invested in the prototype of the medical territory of "medical science + Internet medical + offline hospital".
In 2021, the single highest financing in the field of mental health was also born, and ByteDance invested in a professional service platform focusing on psychological science - "Good Mood". It is worth noting that Haoxin has previously completed 3 rounds of financing, with a financing amount of more than 125 million yuan. This round was led by byteDance's strategic investment department, and Fosun Health, Enhua Pharmaceutical, Xingfu Capital, Tak Shing Capital and others followed by the 200 million yuan C round.
Good mood financing journey
Mental health services have attracted a lot of attention from capital in the past two years. The good mood of the above-mentioned invested enterprises is innovative compared with the previous "users with psychological counseling needs to choose doctors online" consultation mode, and the platform uses data algorithms to accurately match patients and doctors and establish a one-on-one contact model.
According to the Titanium Media App, since its inception in 2015, "Good Mood" began to lay out the application of big data in Internet diagnosis and treatment; at the same time, Good Mood has formed in-depth cooperation with more than 100 leading pharmaceutical companies at home and abroad in the field of CNS, such as Lingbei, Janssen, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Enhua Pharmaceutical, and Howson Pharmaceutical, to complete the industrial closed loop of online service - offline clinic - medication management. In other words, patients can complete it in one stop in a good mood from consultation to medication.
In 2020, its first psychological counseling clinic landed in Beijing. According to the data, as of June 2021, the number of registered psychiatry and neurologists on the Good Mood Platform has exceeded 50,000, with the largest group of doctors in the field platform, and the business in the first half of 2021 has increased by more than 300% compared with the same period last year.
The directives in the "Healthy China 2030" Planning Outline provide policy benefits for the mental health industry. The outline proposes that "by 2022 and 2030, the level of mental health literacy of residents in China will be increased to 20% and 30%." Judging from public data, at present, the overall incidence of various types of mental and psychological diseases in China is 17.5%, the number of people with mental and mental illness and the number of medical service needs has reached 250 million, while there are only about 45,000 practicing physicians in the department of clinical psychiatry.
The shortage of psychiatry practitioners and the gradually growing demand of hundreds of millions of people have given the spiritual psychological track a huge space for growth. In the future, whether Byte will rely on its huge traffic pool to empower and drain its investment platform is worthy of industry attention.
ByteDance Medical Health Map (compiled according to Titanium Media TMTBase database)
Titanium Media App understands that ByteDance has set up an "Aurora Department" focusing on the big health business. The business unit was led by Wu Haifeng, the founder of Xiaohe Health (who was the founder of Yizhi 24 Technology Co., Ltd.), and reported to Zhang Yiming, global CEO of ByteDance. The business of the department, the external unified brand is "Xiaohe Medical", around the Xiaohe medical brand, has formed a "medical science + Internet medical + offline hospital" medical territory prototype.
<h2>Byte big health business, "little lotus" has shown sharp corners</h2>
Since the launch of Xiaohe Medical, the "Xiaohe" family has three major products, namely the Xiaohe APP for the user, the Xiaohe doctor for the doctor, and the Xiaohe doctor for the hospital version (hospital version).
"Little Lotus" family of products
Xiaohe APP belongs to the typical comprehensive Internet medical products, positioned as a "real medical experience sharing platform platform platform." At present, the business covers "online drug purchase", "vaccine appointment", "welfare club", "medical beauty", "disease self-test", "nucleic acid testing", "bowel cancer screening", "quick ask doctor", "small Dutch medical code", "patient case" and other modules.
In addition, Xiaohe APP also provides "online drug purchase", and the drug support service is KangaiDuoDuo Pharmacy (Beijing Quantum Yuedong Technology Co., Ltd., a strategic investment company of ByteDance, indirectly holds an equity interest in the company). Titanium Media App found that the platform recently launched the medical beauty section.
According to the monitoring of Qimai data, the download volume of the "Xiaohe" App on the iPhone platform in February and August this year was at a high level. Dr. Xiaohe (Hospital Edition) is a mobile work tool specially built for doctors, allowing doctors to use fragmented time to provide professional services to patients anytime, anywhere.
Titanium Media App also noted that in the past six months of 2021, ByteDance has frequently acted on the "Xiaohe" trademark, and has applied for the registration of trademarks such as "Xiaohe Medicine", "Xiaohe Doctor", "Xiaohe Aesthetic Medicine" and "Hello Pediatrician". At the same time, the titanium media APP saw on the ByteDance officer that Xiaohe Medical was recruiting talents extensively, and Xiaohe-related businesses were steadily advancing.
<h2>Platforms race, giants chase deer</h2>
With byteDance's blessing on the medical business, China's Internet medical industry has added giants in addition to Alibaba, Baidu, JD.com, and Tencent.
Ali was the first to lay out Internet medical treatment, and as early as 2014, it formed the predecessor of "Ali Health", and later created the "Internet + Medical Health First Share". According to the latest financial report data, as of March 31, 2021, Alibaba Health achieved operating income of 15.519 billion yuan, an increase of 61.7% year-on-year. Revenue mainly comes from the four major businesses of pharmaceutical self-operation, pharmaceutical e-commerce platform (Tmall pharmaceutical platform), medical and health services and digital infrastructure business. In addition, Alibaba Health continues to operate its chronic disease benefit program.
JD.com also started the operation of the medical and health business in the same year. Six years later, in December 2020, it officially landed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In the first half of 2021, the total revenue of JD Health was 13.64 billion yuan, an increase of 55.4% year-on-year. At present, Jingdong Health's business mainly involves two major sectors: retail pharmacies and online medical and health services. Up to now, Jingdong Health has mainly focused on "medicine" to build an online and offline integration system.
At the level of chronic disease management, it has cooperated with the world's leading pharmaceutical companies to officially launch the self-operated flagship stores of brands such as AstraZeneca and Sanofi; at the level of innovative drugs, it has joined hands with CRO companies and many pharmaceutical companies to establish the Jingdong Health Clinical Trial Patient Recruitment Center; at the level of offline medical channels, many places have opened offline hospital stores and DTP pharmacies.
Tencent's layout in the medical industry, the early bias to focus on the investment layout, so far has invested in no less than 26 medical companies, the amount of investment has reached 10 billion scale (for details, see the titanium media report "An article to understand the plight and break of Tencent Medical"). Baidu's layout in the field of medical vertical search is the earliest, but its formal establishment of the medical business unit was in early 2015 (the division was later abolished in February 2017), until April 2018, Baidu established the AI Innovation Business Department (Baidu Lingyi) to focus on medical AI. AI has two routine roles, one is to improve efficiency, such as fundus image AI analysis system, smart hospital system construction; the other is to improve the accuracy of repeated operations, such as the industry and users provide intelligent outbound call, anti-epidemic robots, migration big data, AI mask detection, AI rapid temperature measurement and other artificial intelligence solutions;
In March last year, Baidu officially launched a new sub-brand Baidu Health, forming a content ecology with Baidu Health Medical Code as the core, and its services cover online consultation, drug delivery appointment, appointment registration, psychological consultation, insurance, etc.
Meituan, which focuses on local life services, is also trying to get a piece of the medical market. The pace of Meituan's "selling drugs" began in 2017. In October 2017, meituan completed a financing of 4 billion yuan, and entered the medical beauty industry, covering more than 390 subdivisions such as skin management, anti-aging, hyaluronic acid, physical examination, and oral cavity through huge traffic; in November 2019, Baishou Health Network, which is wholly owned by Meituan, was established.
Just as a few years ago, giants have successively changed the service industry, retail industry or logistics industry with the logic of "Internet + industry", and now the torrent of platform economy is flowing into the medical industry with higher thresholds.
