Morphological characteristics Of medium to large size, the body length is 17 to 20 cm. It is stocky in stature and has a large mouth , with a metallic lead-gray or flesh-pink color. The anterior eye, the base of the mouth, the chin, and the middle of the upper larynx are black, forming a narrow black eye mask. The head is brownish yellow, the back of the neck is gray, the back is tan, and the waist skin is yellow. The underparts are predominantly light tan with white undertail coverts. The wings are predominantly black with a blue metallic luster , with white overhangs on the wing , forming a pronounced wing spot ; the white of the middle of the primary flight feathers is visible during flight to form a distinct white patch. The tail is short and slightly concave, black, and white at the end. The eyes are brown. Feet pink.

It inhabits woodlands, forest edges, orchards and urban gardens in low mountains and plains, and prefers to move in clusters, sometimes in groups with wax-billed finches. It is often active in trees and also forages on the ground. The main food is nuts, seeds, other plant fruits, etc., and also eats insects. Traveling birds or winter migratory birds. It is found in the low mountains and foothills of Mount Taishan.

Conservation status IUCN:LC; terrestrial wildlife of ecological, scientific and social value protected by the state.
