Jinan, October 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Due to the spread of the new crown variant virus, the frequent occurrence of respiratory diseases in autumn and winter, in order to thoroughly implement the national epidemic prevention and control strategy and consolidate the national immunization barrier, Shandong has launched the vaccination of the new crown virus vaccine "strengthening the needle". So, what kind of people need to be vaccinated with booster needles? How to choose a booster vaccine? In response to the key questions of public concern, Zou Liping, attending physician of the Institute of Immunization and Prevention of Jinan Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, answered them.
Why boost immunization?
Zou Liping: According to the results of domestic and foreign studies, the new crown virus vaccine has played a great role in preventing infection and reducing the incidence of disease. However, after a period of covid-19 vaccination, there is a weakening of the protective effect. The results of relevant studies have shown that after receiving the booster needle, the antibody level of the recipient will be greatly improved. In addition, the antibody retention of the enhanced immunity is stronger, and there will be a better protective effect after strengthening the immunity, which can better cope with the mutant strain.
Who should get the COVID-19 vaccine booster?
Zou Liping: According to the national arrangement, the target group for enhanced immunization of the new coronavirus vaccine at this stage is the 18-year-old and above people who have been vaccinated with Sinopharm Zhongsheng Beijing Company, Beijing Kexing Zhongwei Company, Sinopharm Zhongsheng Wuhan Company inactivated vaccine or Tianjin Kangxino Company's adenovirus vector vaccine for 6 months. Priority will be given to those in key positions that are at high risk of infection and in key positions to ensure the basic operation of society. According to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, strengthen immunization services will be provided for people aged 60 and above who are at high risk of severe illness after infection, those who work and study abroad, and other people who meet the conditions and need to be vaccinated.
How long is the interval to strengthen immunity?
Zou Liping: The interval between enhanced immunization and full immunization is at least 6 months. For example, if you receive an inactivated vaccine, you must complete 6 months after the second dose of vaccination before you can get a booster injection.
Is it safe to boost immunization?
Liping Zou: Studies have shown that after the covid-19 vaccine is enhanced, the types and probabilities of adverse reactions are not significantly different from those of basic immunization. Vaccination with the new crown virus vaccine is safe, effective and can be vaccinated with confidence.
How are vaccines chosen?
Liping Zou: It is currently recommended to use the same vaccine as the basic immunization for booster immunization. For people who use the same enterprise inactivated vaccine to complete two doses of basic immunization, in principle, use the inactivated vaccine produced by the same enterprise to enhance immunization; the population that uses inactivated vaccines of different enterprises to complete two doses of vaccination, in principle, give priority to the use of the second dose of the vaccine produced by the enterprise for enhanced immunization, if there is no second dose of the same enterprise vaccine, the first dose of the same enterprise vaccine can be used. People who use adenovirus vector vaccines for basic immunity are still immunized with adenovirus vector vaccines.
Where to get the booster injection?
Zou Liping: Key groups with a high risk of infection will be mainly vaccinated by the unit or industry organization; other groups of people can go to the designated new crown virus vaccination point in the jurisdiction for vaccination, and it is best to go to the vaccination point where you have received the first or second dose before.
What should I pay attention to when vaccinating?
Zou Liping: When vaccinating, be sure to bring your previous vaccination vouchers and ID cards, and do a good job of personal protection according to local prevention and control requirements, and cooperate with the health inquiries of on-site vaccination staff.
Contraindications are strictly avoided, and if there is a severe allergic reaction before vaccination against the new crown virus, whether it is the first or second dose, it can no longer be given a booster injection.
After inoculation, it is also necessary to stay on site for at least 30 minutes. A small number of people will have a slight general reaction, such as tenderness at the vaccination site, fever, headache, and body aches, which generally do not need to go to the hospital, and pay attention to rest in 1-2 days will generally relieve themselves. However, if the symptoms are felt to be severe and last for a long time, it is recommended that the recipient go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time.
Covid-19 vaccination needs to be separated from other vaccines by 14 days (except rabies vaccine and tetanus vaccine), and everyone should give priority to the new crown virus vaccine and then arrange other vaccinations.
