Common parasitic diseases in pigs - pulmonary filariasis (causes, symptoms and how to prevent them)

【Pathogen】Pig lung filariasis in China is caused by long-spined posterior strongiae and short-pubic posterior ringworm, which mainly affects piglets. The disease is more common in warm and rainy seasons, and is less common in winter and spring. The body of the long spiny roundworm is slender and milky white, the female is about 20 to 50 mm long, and the male is 14 to 26 mm long. The eggs are oval in shape, the outer membrane is not smooth, the eggs contain developing larvae, and the egg size is 0.04 to 0.06 × 0.03 to 0.04 mm.

Adult worms parasitize in the small bronchi of pigs, and the eggs laid by the female worms enter the mouth with sputum, are swallowed by the pig into the digestive tract, and then excreted with feces. In moist soil, when the temperature is right, the larvae can hatch from the eggs after 1 to 2 days. When the earthworm swallows the larvae, the larvae grow and develop in the earthworm, and when the temperature is 20 to 23 ° C, it generally develops into invasive larvae after 8 to 9 days. When the pig forages and swallows this earthworm, the invasive larvae in the earthworm pass through the intestinal wall of the pig, enter the mesenteric lymph nodes and small blood vessels, and migrate along the lymphatic system and blood circulation to the lungs, and mature in the small bronchi or large bronchi through the alveoli, a process that takes about 25 to 35 days.

【Symptoms】The disease mainly harms piglets and is endemic. The main clinical symptom is paroxysmal cough, especially early, late and more intense during exercise. Although the diseased pigs with a long course of disease have appetite, they are becoming emaciated, anemic, coarse and dull, with purulent viscous fluid flowing out of the nostrils, and stunted; often form stiff pigs (only 20 to 30 pounds in 6 to 7 months), and some show puffiness under the chest, limbs and eyelids. Severely infected pigs with many insect bodies or late sick pigs have loss of appetite or abandonment, vomiting, diarrhea, extreme weakness, difficulty breathing, and finally death due to cachexia.

【Prevention and control】Strengthen feeding management, do a good job in cleaning and sanitation and disinfection, and feed more feed containing minerals and vitamins to enhance the disease resistance of pigs. Pig manure is removed on time, fermented as a pile, and biothermal disinfection is carried out to eliminate the source of infection. In addition, a preventive deworming campaign is carried out once in spring and autumn for pigs in endemic areas to eliminate the source of the disease. Sick pigs can be treated with the following drugs:

Common parasitic diseases in pigs - pulmonary filariasis (causes, symptoms and how to prevent them)

1. Western medicine:

(1) Refined dichlorocytes, 0.02 grams per kilogram of body weight, formulated into 10% solution, subcutaneous or intramuscular injection; the drug can also be used 1.5 grams, procaine hydrochloride 1 gram, add 100 ml of normal saline, dissolve and filter, 0.5 ml per kilogram of body weight, intratracheal injection. Injections are given at intervals of 2 to 4 days until they are healed. Take diphtheria tablets internally, 0.1 grams per kilogram of body weight, add an appropriate amount of water, take it internally, and take the drug again every 7 days, the total amount of each time is not more than 7 grams, so as not to cause poisoning.

(2) Tracheal injection of iodine solution: 1 g of iodine, 2 g of potassium iodide, 3.75 g of procaine, 1500 ml of distilled water, mixed to make a solvent, 0.5 ml per kilogram of body weight, tracheal injection, repeat every 2 days, continuous injection 3 times.

(3) Sea group life, 0.1 grams per kilogram of body weight, subcutaneous injection or internal administration, and use again every 5 days.

(4) For sick pigs with severe symptoms, in addition to deworming treatment, antibiotics or sulfonamides should also be used in conjunction with them to prevent complications.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine: make a gentleman 10 grams, pomegranate peel 10 grams, Guanzhong 10 grams, betel nut 6 grams, add an appropriate amount of water, fry (for 25 kg of pigs).
