Round-winged spade is a relatively unpopular variety in China, although there are many varieties of round-winged shovels in China, but due to the difficulty of artificial breeding of round-winged shovels, adult lifespan is short, and the larval stage is long, most insect friends do not like it.
However, today we still want to introduce the round wing shovel, the basic knowledge we should still understand, today first talk about the Japanese round wing shovel! Later, we will talk about the domestic round-winged shovel.
There are 4 varieties of Japanese round-winged spades, namely brown round-winged spade, Okinawa round-winged spade, Amami round-winged spade (including 2 subspecies), yaeyama round-winged (including 2 subspecies), a total of 6 subspecies. Let's get to know them one by one.
Note: Do any bug friends think that the round-winged spade is very similar to the ghost spade, especially the short-toothed ghost! In fact, everyone does not know that the round-winged spade was classified in the genus Ghost in the early days, and later it was independently formed into a separate genus.
1. Neolucanus insularis:
Inhabiting the Yaeyama Islands (Ishigaki Island and Nishimote Island), it is a small species of Japanese round-winged spade, and the male is only 36 mm individuals. The male has a large eosin that curves upwards at the anterior end, dividing into two and two parts up and down, with the small inner teeth lined up in a jagged manner, the dorsal plate of the anterior thorax is reddish-brown, and the elytra wings are bright yellow-brown.
The brown round-winged spade occurs in October every year, and although it is cool in the morning and evening, the daytime in the Yaeyama Islands is still quite hot, which is very suitable for brown round-wing activities. During the day they usually fly around or crawl in the woods or grass, and there is little gathering on the trees to suck sap.

2. Okinawa round-winged spade (Neolucanus okinawanus):
Inhabiting the Okinawa region of Japan, the Japanese Ministry of the Environment has listed it as an endangered Class II species and a nationally designated natural monument in 2016, and has been banned from collection since 2013, and the Okinawa round-winged spade is currently recorded as an individual of 71.9 mm (2012), which is the largest species in The Japanese round-winged spade. Breeding is also more difficult, with the Japanese genus Roundwing being higher. The body color is black and the gloss is very high.

3. Neolucanus protogenetivus:
Its habitat is Anmi Oshima, Tokunoshima, and Kojima, and there are two species, the original name subspecies and the Kojima subspecies.
Amami's round-winged spade large toothed 2nd tooth process is less developed and curls inwards, and its body color is dark black. Amami round-winged spade collection is very difficult, requires deep penetration into primary forest, and has a high degree of danger. Due to its declining population, it is currently listed as an endangered Class II species in Japan, and collection is prohibited on Amami Oshima and Tokushima.
Amami round-winged spade is the most difficult species in the Japanese genus Round-winged, requiring less nutritious highly decaying humus, and the average mortality rate of captive-bred larvae is also the highest in the genus Round-winged (Japan). The current record for artificial feeding is 68.3 mm (2012).
Amami round-winged spade was originally named subspecies
Neolucanus protogenetivus hamaii: Inhabits the island and begins to appear at the end of August each year, with an outbreak in mid-September and gradually decreasing after late September. It usually burrows in tree holes during the day and begins to come out at sunset, and is also listed as an endangered species and prohibited from collection. According to some sources, the Kojima subspecies has been downgraded from the subspecies to the Amami Round-winged Spade Kojima type (however, the personal Japanese level is limited, and no relevant and accurate literature has been found, if you have it, please let me know).

4. Neolucanus insulicola insulicola:
It inhabits medium-sized round-winged spades on Ishihei Island and Nishimote Island (Yaeyama Islands) in Okinawa Prefecture, with a large jaw full of upward-facing tooth protrusions. It starts in September and is in outbreak from October to November.
Yaeyama round-winged spade
Neolucanus insulicola donan: A subspecies of the Yaeyama round-winged spade that inhabits the island of Yonakoku (Yaeyama Islands), the subspecies name derives from the pronunciation of the nickname "Wataru" on Yonaguni Island, and has been listed as an endangered species in Japan.
Compared to the original subspecies, the eye margins of the round wings of Naguo are more acute. Females have a unique rounded body shape and are easily distinguishable from other species of females on the surrounding islands.
With that country round wing spade
Well, let's go here today! Next time we talk about the domestic round-winged spade armor, round-winged spade breeding in China is not easy, if you have a good experience willing to share with insect friends, welcome to contact!
After sorting out this article, I suddenly found that the round-winged spade is still quite beautiful, and the rounded figure is still quite impressive!
If there is any error in the above, I hope that all the insect friends will correct it, thank you for reading!
