Clownfish is a common name for fish of the sea anemone fish subfamily of the family Cyprinidae. It is named because it has one or two white stripes on the face, resembling a harlequin in Peking Opera. They are a hermaphrodite and one of the few species in which males can become females, and females cannot become males. Each clownfish population has a dominant female, as well as several adult males and juvenile fish that have not yet shown their characteristics. Males are hermaphrodite in their youth. If a dominant female dies, one of the adult males will undergo hormonal changes, transforming into the new female in the population.

Clownfish and anemones have an inseparable symbiotic relationship, so they are also called "anemone fish". Clownfish have a special surface mucus on the surface of their bodies, which protects them from the influence of sea anemones and lives safely inside. Because of the protection of the anemone, the clownfish are protected from the attacks of other large fish, and the leftover food of the anemone can also be supplied to the clownfish, and the clownfish can also use the anemone's tentacle bushes to safely build nests and spawn. For anemones, the free entry and exit of clownfish can attract other fish closer and increase the chance of predation.
