She is a scientific research worker with Gaoligong Mountain as her home, climbing over the mountains and mountains all year round, hiking at various stations of Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve, carrying out animal and plant investigation and monitoring, and writing scientific research monitoring reports; she is a clear stream, tenacious and persistent, dedicating her youth and enthusiasm to the mountains, changing in spring and autumn, happy and forgetful. She is Chen Yingzhao, chief of the science and technology section and senior engineer of the Tengchong Branch of the Baoshan Management and Conservation Bureau of Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve.

In the past 25 years, with the tenacity of serious and sincere work and selfless enthusiasm for work, chen Yingzhao has participated in and led a lot of scientific research projects. The Tengchong Sub-bureau carried out artificial breeding of rhododendrons to return planting, and successively monitored species such as white-tailed slightly reddish- and slightly red-tailed juveniles, cloud cats, Dali armored orchids, armored orchids, Himalayan orchids, and Diantong trees, which provided strong support for the biodiversity research of Gaoligong Mountain.
Over the past 25 years, Chen Yingzhao has followed the rangers of Tengchong Branch to carry out countless investigations in Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve, collect specimens, obtain basic data, lead rangers to carry out field monitoring, lay infrared cameras, screen pictures, extract data, compare and collate, write reports, guard the biodiversity of Gaoligong Mountain with rigorous work attitude and scientific professional knowledge, disseminate the concept of nature education in Gaoligong Mountain, and be highly recognized by peer practitioners.
25 years with the mountains
Chen Yingzhao, 48 years old this year, is a native of Qushi Town, Tengchong, and his hometown is at the foot of Gaoligong Mountain. After graduating from Baoshan Normal School in 1993, Chen Yingzhao was assigned to teach at Qushi zhenqiao Primary School in his hometown. In 1996, Chen Yingzhao changed careers and became a member of the Jietou Protection Station of the Tengchong Branch of the Baoshan Management and Conservation Bureau of Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve.
"When Xu Xiake crossed the Gaoligong Mountain, he wrote these words on the top of the mountain: 'The Hundred Families live on the head of the peak, the east is bordered by a cliff, and the bottom is very deep... The past is like looking at the mirror, floating on the rock, and the sigh is long! Chen Yingzhao admitted, "This is also one of the reasons why I liked this job in the first place." In addition, I grew up living under Gaoligong Mountain, and I feel that Gaoligong Mountain is like my own family, and I have the responsibility and obligation to protect her. ”
In order to crack the code of biodiversity of Gaoligong Mountain and capture these imaginative, alert and ethereal creatures, the common scientific and technological means used by the Management and Conservation Bureau is to use infrared cameras to continuously monitor and investigate the wildlife resources in the jurisdiction.
Chen Yingzhao introduced that in recent years, the Tengchong sub-bureau has put more than 300 infrared cameras, basically covering the main areas of wildlife habitat activities in the jurisdiction, monitoring and photographing more than 100 kinds of rare and endangered wildlife images such as Gaoligong white-browed gibbon (also known as Tianxing gibbon), Asian black bear, Fischer langur, white-tailed red pheasant, white-bellied golden pheasant, etc., including 46 species of mammals and more than 80 species of birds.
In 2014, the first batch of wild cloud cat image data were taken in the Tengchong jurisdiction of Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve. Previously, the last definite record of the cloud cat in Yunnan was two specimens obtained in Jingdong in December 1984, and the cloud cat photographed in Gaoligong is of great significance. "We do it with traces to record, use lenses to discover, use images to protect, and have pictures and truths." Chen Yingzhao said.
According to the monitoring plan of Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve, Chen Yingzhao and his colleagues continue to monitor the bird and animal monitoring sample lines and plant monitoring samples laid out in the jurisdiction every year on a quarterly basis; carry out special surveys of star species, newly discovered and newly recorded species in the jurisdiction, including Gaoligong white-browed gibbon, large tree rhododendron, and newly recorded species cloud cat, Dali armor orchid, armor orchid, Himalayan armor orchid, Diantong, etc.
The large tree rhododendron, together with the white-browed gibbon and the white-tailed rainbow pheasant, is known as the "Three Treasures of Gaoligong Mountain". The rhododendron, known as the "Rhododendron King", has become a critically endangered plant for various reasons, rare in number, and in previous years, artificial breeding was also half the effort.
"We conducted carpet field surveys and inspections in the two areas where the rhododendrons are distributed, and all the rhododendron plants with a chest diameter of more than 5 centimeters were registered, and the location, height, crown width, and growth site were recorded in detail." Chen Yingzhao said that in the survey of the big tree rhododendron, we finally figured out the number of big tree rhododendrons - 1771 trees, including 550 seedlings, and the world's recognized big tree rhododendron king.
In 2017, combined with the living environment and biological characteristics of the rhododendron of the big tree, focusing on solving the breeding problem of the natural regeneration of the rhododendron in the wild due to the small seed, Chen Yingzhao actively promoted the artificial breeding of the rhododendron of the big tree to return to the planting base, and carried out the artificial cultivation of the rhododendron of the big tree, after years of research and experiments, the Tengchong branch has achieved remarkable results in the near-land protection, artificial breeding to the return planting and ex-situ protection of the rhododendron of the big tree.
"In 2017, 80 seedlings were transplanted to Gaoligong Mountain Forest Home Shop, which is similar to the forest vegetation and climate type in the native area, and the survival rate is currently more than 60%. In order to expand its population, in May this year, the Yunnan Academy of Forestry and Grassland Sciences handed over 300 high-quality seedlings of rhododendron to the Tengchong Branch for return planting, of which 100 were planted in the Gaoligong Mountain Botanical Garden in Tengchong City, and 200 were still planted in the Gaoligong Mountain Forest Home Shop, each seedling was numbered and hung with a two-dimensional code, and the survival rate of the second batch is currently 100%. Chen Yingzhao said happily that the experiment proved that Lin Jiapu is more suitable for the growth of large tree rhododendrons, and the return to planting has achieved phased results, and this endangered species has been effectively protected.
Willing to spend his life guarding Gaoligong Mountain
Chen Yingzhao is not only a well-known "workaholic", but also an "emotional telling station" in Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve. In 2017, Chen Yingzhao, who worked "too hard", was unwell and later underwent heart stent surgery. Although he was troubled by the disease, the "old Chen" in the mouth of this colleague did not lose his enthusiasm for helpfulness, and his passion for his work did not fade.
"Protecting Gaoligong Mountain is not just a job, it's a career. Protecting the biodiversity of Gaoligong Mountain, making the earth stable and peaceful, making all things prosperous, and allowing people to live in harmony with nature is the common mission of our stewards! Chen Yingzhao said.
"Tengchong people call Gaoligong Mountain 'mother' because Gaoligong Mountain guards this land with its wide arms, like a natural barrier, bringing warm seasons to Tengchong and feeding the people who have lived here for generations." I am willing to spend my life guarding this forest sea and guarding our green homeland. Chen Yingzhao said.
