Wu Yongsheng, secretary of the party committee and director of the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, told the cross-strait media Sichuan-Chongqing reporter that panda genes need to be rigorously paired to find suitable pandas to breed, but he believes that "Yuanzai" is well taken care of in Taiwan, has good health, and should soon find suitable pandas to breed with him.
"Tuantuan" and "Yuanyuan" were born in 2004 and went to Taiwan from the mainland in 2008. The Taipei Zoo considered the two pandas to be young and did not immediately arrange artificial insemination, which was not tried until 2011. The first child of "Tuan Tuan" and "Round Circle" was born in 2013.
