Known as the "Crown of Ballet", the ballet Giselle is a masterpiece of Romantic ballet, based on the German poet Heine's "Spirit of Nature" and the French writer Victor Hugo's "Oriental Collection" poem "Ghost".
In this dance, the actress has to face the double test of performance skills and dance skills at the same time, so it is also a "touchstone" for measuring a good ballet dancer, and ballet actresses have long pursued the performance of "Giselle" as an artistic pursuit, and it is also one of the repertoire that the principals of major ballet companies must go through.
So what kind of love story does this classic ballet interpret? This issue of the Art Micro Class invited international ballet artist Tan Yuanyuan to tell us this love story that takes place in the world of reality and magic.
The story of Giselle
"Giselle" is about a beautiful, kind country girl, Giselle, who falls in love with Prince Albert. But because the prince came to the village disguised as a commoner, Giselle did not know his true identity and met and fell in love with him.
Giselle with Prince Albert
Giselle later learned that Albert had a fiancée who died of extreme pain and madness. Prince Albert arrives at Giselle's grave in the forest, tries to apologize to her, and encounters a group of ghosts in the jungle. They have a unique punishment for negative people: make them dance, dance until they die of exhaustion. But at the last moment, as dawn approached, the kind-hearted Giselle stepped forward and saved Prince Albert.
