During his illustrious career, he briefly played in the Bundesliga and Premier League, but mainly in Major League Soccer.

"I am truly honoured to be named the first head coach in the history of the San Diego believers." Donovan said: "It was the right place, the right time, the right person, the right person for me to start my coaching career.

"I am so grateful to the believers and all of our fans who believe I can help build a true Santiago club. Together, we're going to launch a product that everyone in San Diego is proud of that will bring laughter to countless people. ”

Donovan is expected to qualify for his U.S. Soccer coaching next year, and the Believers' first season will begin in March 2020.

Club president Andrew Vasilladis believes Donovan, who grew up in California, is the best person to lead the team to the country.

"There's no one in america who represents men's football better than Langdon Donovan." Vassiriadis said.

"Langdon's talent and knowledge of the game far outweighed his skills as a player; during those years he was a student in the sports world and developed relationships within the industry, which was crucial for us to start the club and form a new team. We are honored to be able to lead our technical team, both on and off the field. ”

The San Diego Believers team was officially formed in June this year and will play at the Torriro Stadium for the next three seasons.
