Former world number one Pete Sampras recently said he thought his best performance ever came against eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi in the 1999 Wimbledon final. Sampras reached the final as a five-time winner in the 1999 Wimbledon final, winning his sixth title at the All England Club in less than two hours by beating former world number one Agassi 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Sampras, who has won a total of 14 Grand Slam titles in his extremely successful career, successfully defended Wimbledon in 2000, but in the years that followed he never made his way up the grass championships.

Agassi won his first title at Wimbledon in 1992 and he was preparing to win the title at the All England Club the following year, but Sampras stopped him. "Someone asked me what was the best game I've ever played?" In an interview with at THEP's official website, Sampras said, "I played perfect lawn tennis, moved well, returned and served well, played against the best opponents in the world. I played as well as I could, and I kind of got into the realm of self-forgetfulness. ”
Sampras said: "Wimbledon is always stressful and I feel like it's the Super Bowl we're sporting. But honestly, I'm not in good shape. In the years when I won at Wimbledon, I didn't do well at the French Open and probably didn't even win the Queen's Cup. Everything at Wimbledon turned around, I felt good, Centre Court inspired me and the game will change my year forever. Physically, mentally, it's a perfect match. Of course, you want to win the championship, lift the trophy, have confidence, let others know that you play well, and I don't think it's that important for me to win the Queen's Cup. I knew that once I went to Wimbledon, in the first few games, I could be eliminated. But what this place meant to me, I always knew I was going to play well. ”
After a crushing victory over Agassi in the 1999 final, Sampras successfully defended his title at Wimbledon the following year and soared to the 2002 U.S. Open to win the last Grand Slam of his career.
