Lin Tao was born in Dalian in 1979, his maternal grandmother Ma Yulian was the first generation of machine embroidery workers in Dalian, and his mother Li Wei was the technical backbone of the former Dalian Craft Embroidery Factory. Lin Tao said that in his childhood memories, his grandmother and mother always seemed to be busy in front of the sewing machine, in their hands, the hard, cold machine seemed to have an aura, and in a few nights they could embroider the lively magpies on the curtains and the lifelike swimming ducks on the bedspreads...
Sewing machine embroidery is also known as machine embroidery, that is, machine embroidery, with the development of the times, machine embroidery family has expanded the industrial sewing machine embroidery, computer embroidery and other embroidery processes. After liberation, the embroidery process of sewing machines developed rapidly, and the embroidery industry of sewing machines was widely developed throughout the country, with varieties of tablecloths, pillowcases, bedspreads, cushions and sheets.

Lin Tao recalled that the trainees of Dalian's early machine embroidery training class were trained by a pair of machine embroidery masters and apprentices from Shandong, one surnamed Xu and one surnamed Jiang, who studied in a small room in Xinkai road. 12 sewing machines, 24 people in the class, 2 people per sewing machine. Lin Tao's mother, Li Wei, said that when her son first proposed to inherit the embroidery of the sewing machine, she was surprised and relieved, and what was even more surprising was that the son also improved the traditional stitching methods such as straight needles, round needles, cloud needles, and walking needles, making the stitching more delicate, the application of the theme more extensive, and the works more aesthetic value. In oil painting, Chinese painting, watercolor, thangka, calligraphy, decorative painting and other themes have been tried, coupled with the lustrous texture of the embroidery silk thread itself, so that the embroidered pattern is more full and more textured.
Today, Lin Tao is the vice president of Dalian Handicraft Artists Association, an outstanding arts and crafts artist in Liaoning Province, the inheritor of intangible cultural heritage projects, most of China's traditional crafts are products of the pre-industrial era, and the craft of "sewing machine embroidery technology" is a product of the pre-industrial era, not only is the traditional hand embroidery and motor embroidery, computer embroidery inherit the industrial process of living fossils, but also has distinct new Chinese characteristics, carrying too much nostalgia for an era.
