Known for his strong memory and unusual thinking, Vasily was known in chess, often able to turn things around in a moment of crisis, improvising new moves, and even world champion Gary Kasparov called him the strongest chess player. At the 2017 Chess World Cup, he ended his fifth round (against Aronian) with a rare interview with ChessBase India, where he was interviewed by Indian International Grandmaster and Journalist Sagar Shah.
