(Health Times reporter Zhang Meng) On the morning of June 9, a 26-year-old patient surnamed Liu died, the cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage and the formation of cerebral hernia. On July 6, The user Changsha Ayu, who was certified as the "family member of the guy who died of cerebral hemorrhage after tooth extraction", posted a detailed account of the death:
Wisdom teeth were extracted on May 25; fever developed on June 1, swelling and pain in the left lower extremity; he was sent to the hospital for examination on the afternoon of June 4, and the initial diagnosis was acute leukemia; he entered the ICU on June 5, and the high fever was caused by a bacterial infection, and doctors said that there were bacteria in the blood of the whole body; and died of cerebral hemorrhage on June 9.

"Under normal circumstances, it is not very likely that a serious infection will result after a clinical tooth extraction, and occasionally there may be a local infection, but the probability of serious systemic infection due to tooth extraction is very low, and if there is a serious systemic infection, it is likely to be related to its own systemic disease." Fan Song, deputy chief physician of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial-Head and Neck Surgery at Sun Yat-sen University Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, told the Health Times reporter.
Professor Fan Song stressed that although tooth extraction is a routine surgical operation, there are many factors that doctors need to consider, not only need to take dental tablets or oral panoramas before tooth extraction, but also comprehensively judge whether teeth can be extracted according to the patient's overall condition and previous medical history.
"Patients with systemic diseases need to do corresponding tests, such as diabetics need to check blood glucose before extracting teeth, because if the blood sugar is too high, it will affect wound healing or even infection." Professor Fan Song pointed out that in the examination before tooth extraction, in addition to considering the condition of teeth and jaws, doctors will also check for some systemic diseases. Therefore, before the tooth extraction, the patient's self-reported disease history and the existing examination results have important reference significance for the doctor's judgment of the condition, and a clear understanding of the patient's overall health status is not only conducive to ensuring the safety of the tooth extraction operation itself, but also avoids some systemic complications.
"Therefore, in general, if there is a serious local infection or the patient has a serious cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, hemophilia, leukemia, etc., it is necessary to improve the relevant examinations, invite relevant specialist consultations, and then comprehensively consider whether it is suitable for tooth extraction." Professor Fan Song said that although there are contraindications to tooth extraction, as long as local inflammation is controlled, or the underlying disease is relatively controlled, clinical tooth extraction is still relatively safe.
At present, the family has submitted the matter to the Changsha Medical Investigation Commission for mediation, waiting for the Medical Investigation Commission to mediate the matter, and the specific cause of death of the deceased is still under detailed investigation.
