Live-streamed on 25 August 2019 Netherlands international full-back Denzel Dumfries joined Inter this summer and made his debut as a substitute in the first round of Serie A. Dumfries was interviewed by DAZN on Tuesday.
How was your debut at the Meazza Stadium?
Fantastic, my family was also on the pitch and they were also very happy and proud of that moment. For me, but the first time I got into the pitch as an Inter player, it was a very special moment.
Who is your role model?
One of my role models is McCone, who is a great player.
Inter has a lot of legends, like Zanetti
Yes, he messaged me when I came to Inter and welcomed me warmly. What am I going to ask him? How can you play as many games as an Inter player as he did. Inter won serie A last season and when I don't feel pressured, I will play my football well and do my best for Inter.
Does your name really have anything to do with movie star Denzel Washington?
Yes, that's right, my parents named me Denzel because he chose to. My father was born in Aruba and my mother is from Suriname. I have been to Aruba many times and on holiday there, it was like paradise, a great place and the people were very hospitable. I like to go there as much as I can as some of my family live there and I'm always happy to go back.
How is your relationship with fellow Dutchman De Vry?
Yes, DeVry played a big role in my transfer and he told me a lot about Inter. He said to me two years ago, that was in the Dutch national team, and he always told me that Inter is a great club and he hopes that I can come here one day. Now that I'm finally here, we're all happy about it. I am very grateful to him, he helped me a lot, including in terms of language, I am very happy with our relationship.
You're the 11th Dutch player in Inter history, can you name the other 10?
I can try, first de Vry, then Casteigno, Sneijder, Fas-Vercks, Davis, Seedorf, Bergkamp, Aaron Winter, Wim Jonker, van der Mede.
Are you learning Italian? How much did you learn?
Yes, I did learn "a little" Italian.
What was the italian football terminology you first learned?
Uomo, that means you have a player behind you. Then there's Solo (Alone), Scappa (Escape), Scivola (Slip).
