The General Administration of Customs issued a notice today (19Th) that the import of cherimoya (Sakya) and lotus mist from Taiwan will be suspended from September 20 due to the detection of quarantine pests. When the news reached the island of Taiwan, it caused a shock, and Chen Jizhong, chairman of the "Committee for Agriculture" of the DPP authorities, said today that he would take the initiative to explain it to the outside world.

Taiwan's Shakya Lotus Mist sold more than 90% of the land last year, and now it has been suspended, and the people's criticism of the green fraud policy has failed

Taiwan's "United News Network" reported that according to the statistics of the "Agricultural Committee" of the DPP authorities, Taiwan's lotus fog exported a total of 4942 metric tons last year, of which 4792 metric tons were sold to Chinese mainland, accounting for nearly 97 percent; the Shakya part, last year's exports totaled about 14,284 metric tons, of which 13,588 metric tons were sold to Chinese mainland, accounting for more than 95%. Taiwan media believe that the proportion of sales to land is so high, and the suspension of sales is likely to have a considerable impact.

Li Jiantong, director general of the Taitung Regional Agricultural Association, said that at present, the suspension of export information is only seen on the Internet, and it has not yet received the official document of the Animal and Plant Quarantine Bureau of the administrative agency "Agricultural Committee", so it is inconvenient to comment; while Taitung Shakya is divided into Damu Shakya and Pineapple Shakya, and the export to the mainland is mainly pineapple Shakya.

Yang Zhaoxin, chairman of the Taitung County Agricultural Association, said that it is true that traders have received relevant information in recent days, but due to the variety of cherimoya, and whether the pineapple Shakya is included, it is still necessary to further understand and confirm, in case the real pineapple Shakya also stops selling to the mainland, "this problem is quite serious."

It is understood that Shakya is the main economic crop in Taitung, with a planting area of 5,500 hectares, of which pineapple Shakya accounts for 1,800 hectares, with an annual export output of 14,000 tons, of which more than 90% are sold to the mainland, with an annual output value of more than NT$1.2 billion.

Many Shakyanag said, "Miserable, if Shakya can't export, it is equivalent to drinking the northwest wind." Liu surnamed Shakyanag said that although the county government and the peasant association will actively expand and market Shakya in other regions, it is still limited after all, and the mainland market is still the largest. The peasant surnamed Li said that after the mainland stopped transporting pineapples before, the next wave was Shakya, hoping that the DPP authorities would quickly find a way to solve it.

In the part of lotus fog, Lin Quanhe, executive director of Taiji International Trade Company in Pingtung County, which accounts for more than 80% of the land sales of lotus fog, said that not being able to export will cause an impact, employees are not working, related equipment are ready, and now I am afraid that it cannot be used, and employees do not know where to go.

It is understood that the General Administration of Customs announced on February 26 this year that it will suspend the import of Pineapple (Pineapple) from Taiwan to the mainland from March 1. According to the notice of the General Administration of Customs, since 2020, the mainland customs has repeatedly detected quarantine pests such as the ocean rumped mealybug, the new pineapple gray mealybug, and the sarsaparilla black round shield fly from pineapples exported from the mainland in Taiwan. In order to prevent the risk of plant epidemics, in accordance with relevant laws, regulations and standards, it was decided to suspend the import of pineapples from Taiwan to the mainland from March 1. Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said in response to an inquiry on March 26 that this move is a normal biosecurity precautionary measure, scientific and reasonable, and in line with relevant laws, regulations and standards of the mainland.

Despite this, the customs notice caused a fierce reaction on the island, and the DPP authorities quickly "politicized the operation" of the matter, declaring that the mainland was "casually looking for reasons to suppress Taiwan pineapples." Tsai Ing-wen's office spokesman Zhang Weihan also claimed that the DPP authorities will invest NT$1 billion to strengthen domestic and foreign sales. Tsai Ing-wen posted on Facebook at the time calling for "stand up the farmers and eat pineapples together", and the Green Camp shouted from top to bottom.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, further pointed out in response to an inquiry that for many years, the mainland has always attached great importance to the interests and well-being of Taiwan peasants, actively adopted measures to help Taiwan peasants solve their worries and difficulties, and assist them in expanding the mainland market. When the island's agricultural products are not selling, we should lend a helping hand in a timely manner to help Taiwan farmers tide over the difficulties and enable them to obtain tangible benefits. The mainland's suspension of pineapple imports from Taiwan is a normal preventive measure taken to ensure agricultural production and ecological security, which is completely reasonable and necessary. The DPP authorities have generalized technical issues, maliciously smeared the mainland, and closed the door to solving problems themselves. It is not difficult to solve the problem of agricultural product safety at the source, but the key is that the DPP authorities have no intention of thinking about the Taiwan peasants. To make some superficial articles of eating pineapples is just to get through the confusion.

The Chinese customs announced the suspension of The import of Shakya and Lotus Mist into the mainland, which also triggered many Taiwan netizens to discuss. Someone said "Not the new southbound?" How long does it take to diversify the market? The proportion of Lotus Mist and Shakya exporting to the mainland last year was so high that the DPP authorities completely defrauded the policy and failed, so they should not take the money of the whole people to fill it out when they die." There is acting to eat, there is acting to give, there is gratitude, and... Love Taiwan. It is possible that Brother Bing wants to help eat again, come on. Some netizens pointed out that "it is difficult for most of Taiwan's fruits to be sold to other parts of the world, and the DPP authorities and production and marketing units are messy and selfish, and often self-destructive for the sake of human affection and near-term interests."
