Yesterday, at the SYMPOSIUM on the 40th Anniversary of the TOEFL test and the GRE test in China, ETS China announced the list of "TOEFL China 40 Years and 40 People", which commends the representative representatives of Chinese TOEFL candidates in each era in the past 40 years, as well as representatives who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of International Exchanges and the development of international education in China, showing the influence of outstanding TOEFL elites and English talents in the whole society. Among them, Yu Minhong, the founder of New Oriental, was selected as "TOEFL China 40 People in 40 Years" without suspense. Similarly, Xu Xiaoping, one of New Oriental's "troikas", is also on the list, but his identity is the "founding partner of Zhen Fund".
In 1981, under the instructions of fang Yi, then vice premier of the State Council, ETS signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education, and toefl became the first international standard language test to be introduced into the Chinese mainland, and the GRE test also entered China in the same year. This not only opened a new era of talent exchanges with foreign countries after China's reform and opening up, but also gradually became synonymous with studying abroad.
Over the past 40 years, the TOEFL and GRE tests have accompanied millions of Chinese students to the world, becoming an important part of academic and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, and witnessing the process of China's faster and deeper integration into the global society. The symposium reviewed the development of the TOEFL and GRE in China over four decades, and joined with Chinese policy makers, industry leaders and academic experts in the field of education to discuss international talent development, international education development, New Era English language learning and assessment, and the role of higher education in promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding.
Xu Yongji, deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education, said: "In 1981, the TOEFL and GRE tests entered China, which opened a precedent for Sino-foreign cooperation in holding educational examinations. As an important part of the TOEFL and GRE 40th anniversary activities in China, the "TOEFL China 40 Years and 40 People" list recognizes 40 representative international students and representatives who have made outstanding contributions to promoting international exchanges and international education development in the past 40 years.
