There are three kinds of rhododendrons to see on Wutong Mountain
It is reported that there are three kinds of rhododendrons native to Wutong Mountain, namely Yingshan Red, Gorgeous Rhododendron and Moso Cotton Rhododendron.
Yingshan red, also known as cuckoo. According to legend, this is a red flower dyed red by the blood of the cuckoo bird, hence the name - cuckoo. Rhododendron is a deciduous shrub with a height of 1 to 3 meters, and the flowering period is mostly in March and April. The corolla is bright red or dark red, mainly distributed in the tofu head area of Wutong Mountain. The earliest record of rhododendron in Chinese history can be traced back more than a thousand years, and garden cultivation has been introduced since the Tang Dynasty.
Oryzalea is a deciduous shrub, mainly distributed in the peak of the large sycamore and the barren slope grass and dwarf shrubs on both sides of the ridge line from the large sycamore to the middle sycamore and the small sycamore.
The Mori cotton rhododendron is the most important landscape plant in Wutong Mountain. It is reported that Wutong Mountain is currently the only place in Shenzhen that forms a natural landscape of moso cotton rhododendrons. There are about 20,000 rhododendrons in Wutong beech, mainly distributed in shrublands and sparse forests at an altitude of 500-700 meters. Among them, the landscape effect of "Wanhua Screen" is the most prominent. The highway divides the "Kaleidoscope Screen" into two parts. The largest of these trees has a chest diameter of nearly 30 cm and is more than 110 years old.
