According to CNET, the story of former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky was one of the biggest sex scandals of the 1990s. The new episode American Crime Story: Impeachment recreates those turbulent years, with the trailer giving viewers their first glimpse of Monica Lewinsky as Bini Feldstein, Bill Clinton by Cliff Owen, and Hillary Clinton by Eddie Falco.
"American Crime Story: Impeachment" will premiere on Fox Television on Sept. 7 after the show was inevitably delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the show was originally scheduled to air near the 2020 presidential election. This is the third season of Fox's American Crime Story series, featuring a notorious true crime case. The first season recreates Simpson's wife murder; the second season tells the story of Versace's murder. The third season is based on Jeffrey Tughbin's book The Great Conspiracy: The Truth Behind a Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down the President.
In the miniseries, Sarah Paulsen plays Linda Tripp, a colleague of Lewinsky who secretly records their phone conversations; Billy Eichner plays Matt Draghi, whose Drudge Report website first broke the story, with Catherine Turner playing Susan Webb Wright. In addition, Colin Hanks, Marg Martindale, Mira Sorvino and Annalegi Ashford also starred in the show.
The 2019 documentary series The Clinton Scandal explores the scandal. Clinton himself discussed the topic in Hulu's 2020 documentary, where his wife, Hillary Clinton, is a former U.S. secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate.
