However, because it was found that Fan Chunping and Gao Lanyu were killed, everyone entered the house to rescue them, resulting in great damage to the scene. However, the site investigation team still found traces of being wiped by a wet rag on the safe in the northeast corner of the suite, which had been opened with a key, and a total of 52379.01 yuan in cash was stolen from the cabinet (this figure was an astronomical figure in 1983, and most people would not earn so much money in their lifetime). According to the sales office, the money was withdrawn from the Shandan County Agricultural Bank Treasury at about 17:00 on April 1 and deposited in the safe.

The forensic doctor deduced that the time of death of the two people was about 2 o'clock on April 2.
After the end of the on-site investigation, the special case team immediately held a case analysis meeting, and unanimously believed that the criminals killed 2 people and robbed more than 50,000 yuan in cash, which obviously belonged to the murder of money and murder, and was a serious robbery and murder case.

The "internal response" that the special case team first suspected was Yi Xiaodi, the original owner of the bed where Gao Lanyu was lying, but according to the feedback of the masses, Yi Xiaodi was not in the business office that day, but was on a business trip in the county seat of Shandan County, 47 kilometers away, and there was a sufficient alibi, so Yi Xiaodi's suspicion was ruled out.
At 15:00 on the same day, Yi Xiaodi hurriedly rushed back from the county seat back to Huocheng to reflect an important situation to the special case team: At about 7 o'clock that day, she and Wang Hongfang (female), a typist of the county agriculture and animal husbandry bureau, met the fiancé of Xiong Bei (then 22 years old), a female saleswoman of the Huocheng County Supply and Marketing Cooperative, when running near the county cement factory, and Ma Yanming, a 26-year-old worker at the Shandan County Ceramic Factory, came from the direction of Huocheng on a bicycle, with a red bag clipped to the back frame, looking hurried, and turning a deaf ear to their greeting. After checking, 159 5 yuan banknotes (denomination 795 yuan) were the 1956 version of the banknotes that had been discontinued (a total of less than 1500 yuan was given, half of which could not be used), and the paper tape on which the money was bundled was printed with the word "Huocheng", which could be confirmed as part of the looted cash of the Huocheng business office. Therefore, the special case team determined that Ma Yanming was one of the main perpetrators of the 4.2 robbery and murder case.
