Gad Müller played for Bayern Munich from 1964 to 1979, scoring 566 goals in 607 games for the club, including 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga appearances and a seven-time Bundesliga Golden Boot, making him the league's all-time top scorer. Gad Müller also made 62 appearances for the German national team, scoring 68 goals, helping the team win one World Cup and one European Cup.

Gad-Müller fell ill with Alzheimer's disease in 2015 and has been living and treating in a nursing home in Munich ever since, while his wife, Uschi, spends almost every day with him. Last November. Mueller's wife revealed that his physical condition deteriorated, and he was bedridden and barely able to eat all day.
