5th: World News
The World News is a great modern Western denim film starring Tom Hanks. Based on the novel of the same name by Bollet Giles, World News tells the story of a Civil War veteran named Kyle Kidd who reclaims a young girl from the Kiovans, who consider her their own. By law, Johanna belonged to her biological uncle and aunt, and Kyle was tasked with sending her back. It's a slow-paced Western that is largely based on the emotions of the characters. The film received four Oscar nominations, and composer James Newton Howard received a seventh nomination for Best Original Music.

4th Place: "Excavation"
Kerry Mulligan has been very good at film in recent years. She received an Oscar nomination for 2020's Promising Woman and then played Edith Putier in Netflix's excellent historical drama Dig. Pretty is a British landowner who has found various graves on her land. She hired an amateur archaeologist to carry out the excavations, and he discovered the site now known as Sutton Hoo. This includes a buried ship with many Anglo-Saxon artifacts and is widely regarded as one of the most important archaeological finds in modern British history.
3rd Place: "White Tiger"
Screenwriter and director Ramin Barani adapted Alavind Addiga's novel. Adiga's Man booker Prize-winning White Tiger is a humorous, restless and dramatic glimpse into India's poverty, underclass and caste system. It tells the story of a smart but poor villager named Balram Halwai who uses his ingenuity and strong motivation to get out of poverty at all costs and become a successful entrepreneur. Adashi Gulaf's performance in the film was impressive, and Barani's adaptation of the screenplay was nominated for the 93rd Academy Awards.
2nd Place: Love and Monsters
If nothing else, Love and Monsters will make Dylan O'Brien a comedy star. He plays Joel Dawson, one of only a few remaining humans on Earth. Seven years before the movie, an asteroid was destroyed over Earth. However, this destruction inadvertently released chemical dust, which in turn mutated all the cold-blooded animals into giant, human-killing monsters. Love and Monsters is an incredibly fun movie with great visuals, lots of humor, great action, and captivating characters. It's the kind of original movie that people have always craved.
