After graduating at the age of 20, Park began writing articles for film magazines and even became an assistant director for the successful South Korean film Watercolor painting on a rainy day (1989). But it wasn't until his 2000 film "Common Security Zone" that it became a little famous to some extent.

Since then, Park has focused on revenge and breaking taboos, and his signature directing style has gradually shifted, most notably his excessive use of violence.
In 2016, Park Chan-wook, who considered himself just a film critic, published 10 of his favorite 19,283 films in South Korea's magazine, 키노.
