Founded in 1904, on December 2, 1975, the Lao People's Democratic Republic was established, King Sisawang Vandana (1959-1975) was forced to abdicate, the museum and all its royal collections were nationalized, and the "Royal Museum" was officially renamed the "Lao National Museum" in 1993.
