Nuggets forward Michael Porter talked about his draft when he was on a podcast.
"I was in the rehabilitation process after the first surgery and didn't participate in any team trials. I just had a public audition one day and all the teams came to Chicago to see my training. I trained well, it hurt a bit, but I felt like it was part of the rehabilitation process. I trained well and the king said to me, 'If you're feeling good, we're going to pick you up with the top picks.' I said, 'That's fine.' 'My agent wanted me to do another day of public auditions, only for the top ten picks. He said, 'These teams are very fond of you, and if you do well, you have a chance to be a champion, even after this surgery.' Two days before the second public trial, I woke up with a very sore leg and told my agent, 'I can't get out of bed.' He told me, 'The teams are already off, let them evaluate it.' So for the second audition, I was lying on the table, and the doctors from the top ten teams were there to evaluate. The Clippers' man was the chief physician, and he wrote a report saying, 'He may never fight again.' ’”
"On the night of the draft, I hadn't had a second surgery and it hurt to sit there. Even if you are selected in the fourteenth place, you will have to wait there for two hours before you can pronounce your name. So I sat there and tried to deal with my pain. The day before that, my agent told me, 'Michael, I want you to talk to the Nuggets.' I want to give you the best possible pick. The Nuggets told me, 'We don't think you're going to fall into this pick, but if you do, we'll pick you.' At the time, I didn't think it was possible to go to the Nuggets, but I was selected by the Nuggets. ”
Speaking about the Clippers not selecting him in two consecutive draft picks, Porter said: "I understand, I'm not disgusted with any team that didn't pick me. At that time, I was a little scared and didn't know if I could bounce back. Clippers, I think it's good not to pick me, you know how crazy Los Angeles is, in L.A. only rehabilitation, no playing, I might have something going on. So, I came to the team I was supposed to be. ”
