"If you want to touch the history of Zhengzhou Mall more than 3600 years ago, the city wall ruins are the best choice. Walking around here, it feels very different. ”

On August 17, Wang Yi of the Zhengzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology raised his camera and once again aimed the lens at the ruins of the city wall of Zhengzhou Shangcheng. After so many years of working on cultural relics, he can't remember how many times he took pictures, but he only knows that he has tens of thousands of photos of the city wall left behind.

"7.20" heavy rain, the ruins of the eastern section of the city wall collapsed, which made Wang Yi feel sad. During this time, he ran here more diligently.

Following Wang Yi's lens, the reporter stood at the intersection of Zijingshan Road and Chengnan Road in Zhengzhou City, and the city wall extended to the east and west sides, and the original green wall façade was like a scar on the green carpet. The perimeter of the city walls is a 1.5-meter-high retaining wall of stone masonry, each weighing a ton and a half. "When the torrential rain washed down the city wall, this retaining wall was also washed out of a gap of more than ten meters." Zheng Xiaoxu, head of the cultural relics section of the Bureau of Culture, Tourism and Sports of Guancheng Hui Nationality District of Zhengzhou City, said.

Heading east along Seongnam Road, hundreds of stones washed into the road have all been reset with cranes. However, the mud doped between the cracks in the walls, the underground drainage pipes that were washed out of the surface, and the cracks smashed by the stones on the adjacent pavement are still faintly visible.

Under the city wall, the dredging work has come to an end, and the left pile of white cleaning bags stacked on the right is full of dirt falling from the city wall, weighing 1 ton. Zheng Xiaoxu said: "After years of accumulation, the city wall cover and the city wall body are more closely combined, so these soils must be recycled. Then the cover is compacted layer by layer, and the geogrid is reinforced between each layer to ensure that the city wall's ability to resist risks is improved. ”

On the south side of Seongnam Road, some shops are open. Referring to the damage to the city wall, a big sister who runs an antique calligraphy and painting shop said: "Watching the city wall collapse into a piece, it is strange and painful. "Born and raised in Si, the city walls are not only their glory, but also an inseparable part of their lives.

On the city wall on the boardwalk, several old walnut trees are full of fruit, and the bare soil layer begins to sprout a new green... Zhang Hejun, director of the Heritage Division of the Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics, was relieved. "During this time, we closely followed and observed the situation of the site and checked the hidden dangers of secondary disasters in a timely manner." He pointed to a thick layer of waterproof plastic sheet on the ground and said that places like these cracks must be fully protected and must not be rained again.

Zhengzhou Mall, which has a history of more than 3,600 years, is considered by experts to be the first capital of the Shang Dynasty in China , Bodu. Its city wall with a circumference of nearly 7 kilometers is the most complete preserved of all the Shang Dynasty city sites, the most powerful evidence of Zhengzhou Shangcheng as an ancient city site, and the core support for Zhengzhou to become a national historical and cultural city and listed in China's "Eight Ancient Capitals".

The protection of earthen sites is a worldwide problem, and it is especially fearful of heavy rainstorms, and once it collapses, the losses will be irreparable. Before the rainstorm stopped, the Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics organized experts from Tsinghua University, Zhengzhou University, the Provincial Ancient Construction Institute and other units to the scene to inspect the damage to the city wall, study the rescue plan, and immediately start the rescue and reinforcement work.

"Fortunately, the city wall was previously reinforced and repaired and covered with soil protection, and the landslide area was only a protective overburden collapse and the protection facilities were damaged, and the original city wall cultural relics were safe and withstood the test of this exceptionally heavy rainstorm." Zhang Hejun said that after the completion of the rescue of the city wall at the end of August, the cultural relics department will fully start the restoration project of the damaged city wall in accordance with the procedures.

Standing on the city wall and looking out: outside the wall, Chengnan Road has basically resumed its former traffic; inside the wall, zhengzhou Shangdu National Archaeological Park is full of trees. Wang Yi kept pressing the shutter and sighed: "This is the historical witness and important carrier of Zhengzhou Mall." The city walls were preserved, and the context that had lasted for thousands of years was preserved. ”

Connecting history to the future. With a history of more than 3,600 years, the ruins of the City Wall of Zhengzhou Shangcheng have stood firmly again after weathering the wind and rain.
