Many Americans may be familiar with the U.S. Population and Housing Census, which is a national statistic that helps update legislative regions and designate federal funding. But there are other equally important censuses.
The U.S. government also conducted a census of agricultural products produced in all 50 states. Surveys are filled out by farmers and ranchers who are expected to earn at least $1,000 a year on the crops or livestock they produce. This agricultural census provides at a glance an overview of the total value of the produce sold (the sum of all the produce sold), the highest agricultural product sold (the total amount of crops sold, aquaculture and animals grouped by type) and the most valuable crops (the total yield of each crop, not necessarily sold).
We display the list in alphabetical order and list the country rankings for each entry. We used data from the 2017 State Agriculture Profile Report, commodity values since 2012, and crop values in survey data updated as of January 3, 2019.
