On April 26th, "Craftsman Xin - Retrospective Exhibition of Works by Xiang Xinran, Chief Designer of the Yellow Crane Tower Reconstruction Project" was launched at the Yellow Crane Tower Art Museum (Baiyun Pavilion), and 28 precious manuscripts donated to Xinran's family were exhibited for the first time.
Entering the exhibition hall, exquisite design manuscripts and sketches are displayed in turn. There are magnificent and atmospheric sketches "Impressions of the Yellow Crane Tower", there are neat and delicate façade drawings of the Yellow Crane Tower, and there are lifelike glazed tile ridge decorations... The brushstrokes are delicate and very flexible.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Yellow Crane Tower Park Management Office, a total of 62 design hand-painted works were exhibited this time, as well as Xiang Xinran's drawing tools and correspondence in the process of designing the Yellow Crane Tower, and Xiang Xinran's career was remembered by Yoshimitsu Katayu.
Mr. Xiang Xinran, the chief designer of the Yellow Crane Tower reconstruction project, passed away in Shanghai on February 22, 2021. In 1978, he began to preside over the design of the reconstruction of the Yellow Crane Tower, and by 2000, the construction of the last attraction of the Yellow Crane Tower Park was completed, and Xiang Xinran had designed the Yellow Crane Tower project for a total of 22 years.
He not only completed the shaping of the image of the new Yellow Crane Tower, and built the new Yellow Crane Tower into a thematic historical and cultural museum, but also planned and designed the Yellow Crane Tower Park, reconstructed many historical and cultural attractions around the ancient Yellow Crane Tower, and made the Yellow Crane Tower Park a famous garden with rich connotation and elegant customs.
Li Mingsheng, director of the Yellow Crane Tower Park Management Office, said that Mr. Xiang Xinran's departure has caused the Yellow Crane Tower to lose one of its most important friends. In order to pay tribute to the old man's dedication, rigor and dedication of ingenuity, the garden and Xiang Xinran's family communicated and specially prepared the exhibition.
The reporter saw that the exhibition is divided into three parts: the past and present lives of a building, the ingenuity of a person, and the inheritance of the cultural context of a city. The first part mainly exhibits the Yellow Crane Tower of various eras copied by Mr. Xinran, recording the process of repeated construction and destruction of the Yellow Crane Tower, and also witnesses the changes of the times; the second part shows the process of rebuilding the Yellow Crane Tower as the chief designer, mainly for the various design manuscripts of the Yellow Crane Tower, and the hand-painted works of one stroke tell his spirit of craftsmanship; the third part shows other works he left in Wuhan, such as Hubei Provincial Museum, East Lake Greenway Lake Heart Guimu Station, etc. Each piece of work has become a landmark building in Wuhan today, so that the audience can understand the design ideas behind the landmark and feel his deep love for the city.
The person in charge of exhibition preparation told reporters that when the Yellow Crane Tower was rebuilt, it was "designed and constructed", and part of the design was part of the construction. From 1982 to the end of 1983, Xiang Xinran completed about 150 construction drawings of the main building, and there were no drawings at that time, all drawings were drawn by hand.
Some of the manuscript works on display were donated to the Yellow Crane Tower Park by Xiang Xinran before his death, and some were donated to The Family of Xinran, including the sketch of the plan for rebuilding the Yellow Crane Tower, the blueprint for the panoramic view of the Yellow Crane Tower, the façade and section of the Yellow Crane Tower, and the floor plans of the Yellow Crane Tower, all of which are exhibited for the first time and are very precious.
