Leng Ming, a Court Painter of the Qing Dynasty, was born around 1669 and died in 1742. Zi Jichen, the history of Kinmen painting, a native of Jiaozhou, Shandong, a disciple of Jiao Bingzhen. Good at painting people, boundary paintings, especially fine women. The paintings are beautiful and elegant, the pen and ink are clean, the colors are beautiful, and their painting methods are also written with work belts, decorating the house utensils, and the pen is extremely delicate and vivid.
Leng Mei lived in the inner court for most of his life, so there was little known about his situation in the outside world. Leng Ming's talent, coupled with diligence and studiousness, and his solid painting skills were soon appreciated by the emperor, and around the fifty years of the Kangxi Dynasty (1711), he had become the foreman of the Inner Court Painting Academy. After Leng Mei entered the inner court, the most famous paintings in Kangxi's later years were "Wanshou Tu" and "Summer Resort Tu".
Leng Ming's outstanding performance in painting technique was appreciated by Kangxi. However, in the Yongzheng period, he was snubbed, and Yongzheng did not like chinese painting mixed with Western painting methods, and Leng Ming and his teacher Jiao Bingzhen and others were representatives of western painting techniques that absorbed. At the same time as Leng Ming, xu Mingshi and other painters were expelled from the academy, and Lang Shining's apprentices Chashiba, Fu Hong, and Wang Wenzhi, who also served in the academy, were also sent back to the banner. During the thirteen years of Yongzheng's reign, there was no name for Leng Ming in the Qing Palace archives. Leng Ming left the court and became a painter in the opposition.
Qianlong was an emperor with a discerning eye. Before he ascended to the throne, he had already noticed Leng Ming's work. Therefore, after he came to power, the name of Leng Ming suddenly appeared in the work file of the Qing Palace Manufacturing Office. Qianlong took very good care of Leng Ming's life, not only giving him money and grain for the treatment of the highest painter, but also giving him another 3 taels of rice and silver every month. He also arranged for his son Leng Jian to assist Leng Jian in painting. The following year, Qianlong also rewarded Leng Mei with several official rooms to live in; all this shows that Qianlong attaches great importance to Leng Mei and gives him a very generous living treatment.
Court painters usually went through the following procedures to paint: the emperor came up with the title, the painter drew a sample and presented it, and the emperor agreed to it before he could paint again. Out of trust and preference for Leng Ming, Qianlong sometimes no longer came up with a title, but let Leng Ming paint whatever he wanted, so that Leng Ming had more freedom to play.
Leng Mei's dedication to the painting academy has experienced three generations of emperors kang, Yong and Qian, who have been painting for the Yuanmingyuan for many years, but unfortunately, many of Leng Ming's elaborate works in the Yuanmingyuan in those years have been reduced to ashes in an unprecedented looting with the looting and burning of the British and French allies!
