Oda Nobunaga's Third Long Island Expedition

author:Neon anecdotes

On July 13, 1574, Oda Nobunaga attacked Nagashima for the third time. Japanese scholar Takeda Kyomura proposed that Oda Nobunaga's current battle plan is to completely surround Long Island, trap and consume the enemy, annihilate the enemy, and cut down the grass and roots.

In this battle, Oda Nobunaga, in addition to Owari's ships, also mobilized Takigawa Kazuyoshi's Ise Water Army, as well as the Nine Ghosts Water Army of The Nine Ghosts Kalong, all under the command of Oda Nobuo, with a total of more than 600 ships. Unlike the previous two times, this time Oda Nobunaga finally gained the right to control the sea and could blockade Long Island.

Third Long Island Expedition

Oda Nobunaga attacked from Hayaoguchi on the middle road, Oda Nobunaga attacked Ichieguchi on the east side, and Shibata Katsuya, Sakuma Nobumori, and others attacked from Kashima Island in the west. Ichigo fortified the village of Kogie, but was defeated by the Oda Army, and Ichigo attacked from the ShinohaShi Bridge to fight, but was also defeated by the Oda Army. The Nagashima side was soon defeated, and Ichigo's strongholds of Maesu, Kailaoe Island, and Karuto Island were burned down by the Oda Army.

On the 15th, the Oda army attacked Nagashima from all sides by boat, and the crowd was forced to flee to Nagashima and enter the five fortresses of Shinohashi Castle, Otori Castle, Yachojima Castle, Nakae Castle, and Nagashima Castle. After the siege of these fortresses was completed, Oda Nobunaga first ordered an attack on Ōtori and Shinohashi. Nijo was soon defeated and offered to surrender, but Oda Nobunaga, who wanted to cut the grass and remove the roots, refused their surrender.

On the night of August 2, the wind and rain were fierce, and a group of people guarding the castle of Otori took advantage of this cover and fled overnight, but they were pursued by the Oda army, and more than a thousand people were beheaded. On August 12, a group of people guarding the Shinohashi Bridge demanded surrender, and according to Takeda Kyōmura, Oda Nobunaga refused their surrender and drove them into the three fortresses of Yachojima, Nakae, and Nagashima, with the aim of increasing the number of people in the fortress and depleting the grain of the crowd faster. By the end of September, the three fortresses of Yachojima, Nakae, and Nagashima had been besieged for three months, and more than half of them starved to death.

On September 29, Nagashima Castle's Ichigo requested surrender, and Oda Nobunaga granted their begging. As they withdrew from Long Island and left by boat, the Oda Army's musketeer team suddenly opened fire on them, and a group of people who tried to escape were killed by the Oda Army, who were ambushed by the river. After the Ichida Nobunaga learned of Oda Nobunaga's default, seven or eight hundred and one of them killed the Oda army, the Oda army was defeated, Oda Nobunaga's brothers Nobunaga and Hidenari, uncle Tsuda Nobunaga and others were killed in this battle, and Ichigo, who successfully broke through, scattered and fled, and finally fled to Ishiyama Honganji Temple in Osaka.

There were still about 20,000 men and women in the remaining two cities of Nakae Castle and Yachojima Castle, and Nobunaga had them surrounded by a heavy fence, surrounded them, and then lit fire from all directions and burned them to death. At this point, Long Island has always been calm.

No information has been found on the number of Oda Troops and Nagashima, but the number of nagashima's consistent figures may be estimated. Let's analyze and calculate it carelessly, don't take it too seriously, and be entertained. First of all, it is known that there were 20,000 people in the two cities of Zhongjiang City and Yachojima City, and more than half of the people in the previous two cities starved to death, and there were 20,000 people after starving to death, then there were at least 40,000 people before, as for the number of people who died and starved to death in the other cities, it is not clear, let's count it as 10,000 people, then before the Third Long Island Expedition, there were at least 50,000 people in Long Island. The previous second Long Island expedition cut the crowd by more than half, and after the reduction was more than half, there were more than 50,000 people, so the number of people before the cut was probably 112,000. Well, that's the end of the random analysis. In short, the Third Nagashima Expedition was finally won, and Oda Nobunaga returned to Gifu on September 29.
