Born on February 28, 1930, Li Rentang is a native of Fusong, Jilin Province, whose ancestral home is Zhucheng, Shandong. As a child of a well-to-do family, after graduating from high school in 1949, he went to the then Rehe Provincial Cultural and Labor Corps to do administrative work.
Soon, Li Rentang, who was talented, intelligent and capable, and quite talented in acting, was unanimously favored by the leaders and colleagues of the "missing major general" literary troupe, starting from the dragon set, slowly playing the role, and finally, officially becoming a drama actor. During this period, he has participated in dozens of dramas such as "Storm", "Ten Thousand Waters and Thousand Mountains", "In the Name of Revolution", "Thunderstorm" and so on.
In the early 1960s, the Chengde Regional Repertory Theatre in Hebei Province created and staged the drama "Qingsongling", in which Li Rentang played the role of model breeder Zhang Wanyou (later renamed Zhang Wanshan in the film). In 1965, Changying decided to put the drama "Qingsongling" on the big screen, and it was logical that Li Rentang starred in Zhang Wanshan. In 1973, "Qingsongling" remade a color film, and Li Rentang continued to play Zhang Wanshan.
"Qingsongling" tells the story of the members of the Qingsongling Production Brigade who, under the leadership of the model breeder Uncle Zhang Wanshan, fought against the rich peasants who destroyed production. With two films of "Qingsongling", Li Rentang became an unforgettable film actor in the 60s and 70s, and he was affectionately known as "Uncle Wanshan" by the audience.
