Born on February 28, 1930, Li Rentang is a native of Fusong, Jilin Province, whose ancestral home is Zhucheng, Shandong. As a child of a well-to-do family, after graduating from high school in 1949, he went to the then Rehe Provincial Cultural and Labor Corps to do administrative work.

Soon, Li Rentang, who was talented, intelligent and capable, and quite talented in acting, was unanimously favored by the leaders and colleagues of the "missing major general" literary troupe, starting from the dragon set, slowly playing the role, and finally, officially becoming a drama actor.
